The No. 2 Republican in the Senate, Texas Senator John Cornyn, said on Tuesday that he will introduce a background check bill. This is in response to the mass shooting at the Sutherland Springs Baptist church in Texas, where Devin Patrick Kelley killed 26 people, half of them children, on Sunday. The proposed legislation will require a federal agencies to upload criminal records to a national database, that must be checked before a person can purchase a gun.

“I plan to introduce legislation … to ensure that all federal departments and agencies, including the Department of Defense, upload the required conviction records into the national database,” Cornyn said in a statement.

I mean the NRA and the GOP teamed up to kill universal background checks, a restriction so popular it's basically up there with puppies. It's that sort of fanaticism that we as a country have to deal with and it's pretty plainly the primary obstacle to sensible additional regulation of firearm ownership.

Yes, Eski correctly understood my post are referring to any new form of gun control not already in place. Most full auto weapons have been banned since the 30's. The remainder have been banned since the 80's.

You didn't answer my question, which is why, apart from GOP political opposition, do you believe we're never going to have a law which expands background checks to all sales of firearms? You said it's never going to happen. I'm curious why you think that.

Has there ever been an incident where a mass shooter moved to a new location? They are usually very location specific. Then they run.

Only examples I can think of are going house to house targeting family members.

The Virginia Tech shooter moved around to different buildings on the campus. There have been spree shootings in the past where people were killed in multiple locations.

But I believe that these mass shootings tend to be a single location with either the shooter taking their own life or being shot down. And by a pretty wide margin, no?

WTF are you going on about?

If you hold an FFL and are selling a gun then you are required by law to make the person buying the gun fill out a form 4473 and use that form to verify through the NICS system. There is no loophole. Failure to do that as an FFL holder is BREAKING the law. It doesn't matter if that is at a gunshow, a shop, a parking garage, or a house.

If a person doesn't have an FFL they are not required by law to make a person buying one of their guns fill out a form 4473 and go through a NICS check regardless of where they are.

Despite how many clear and concise ways this has been explained to you, the fact you can't grasp this simple concept is mind boggling.

Okay, there is no loophole in existing law, but a discrepancy written into the law that allows many sales to not be subject to background checks.
