Given how this news broke yesterday, it doesn't seem apt to use the term "breaking" in your thread topic today.

Also, if you read the article, you would see that they technically aren't Sony and Nokia's patents anymore. They were "sold" to a "third party" strictly for the purpose of suing Apple. Why? So the companies in question couldn't have a countersuit filed against them. Then the question is... do you support patent trolls?

Also, if you read the article, you would see that they technically aren't Sony and Nokia's patents anymore. They were "sold" to a "third party" strictly for the purpose of suing Apple. Why? I've always hated that phrase. It's just a shitty justification for someone or something to be a dick. One can just easily hate both when the player is exploiting the game in a way that's detrimental to consumers and the entire industry.

I do not agree with the way Nokia and Sony dealt with this case, and we badly need patent reform to stop this kind of crap.

That said, I think Apple totally deserved to get its ass handed to them, in polite circles it is called getting a taste of their own medicine.

I like Apple computers, but I like Apple less and less and find it harder to be supportive of them everyday. Two, three years ago I was an apple devotee, and it just keeps ebbing away. mostly because of their lawsuit happy culture.

It's not a patent troll, the 'company' is owned by nokia/sony and they use the patents.

Apple has similar arrangements with microsoft and google (see the recent purchase of kodak patents)
