there is a video review over at escapist, verdict is meh. polish and refinement is lacking compared to all the other modern shooters, the only highpoint being the desctructable environment. Doesnt look too impressive.

Anyone play this? looks interesting but could be crap.

For $11.99, I picked it up on Steam as an impulse buy. I figure if I can give someone other than the big warfare FPS publishers some support, it's worth it. The game seems halfway decent. I wouldn't spend $20 on it though.

Ha, neither have I. I've still got Medal of Honor, FO:NW, Morrowind, and a few others which I haven't touched.

One thing I like about the one map I've messed around with in Breach (Ascent) is that there is a significant vertical component to it. Most BFBD2 maps play out within a narrow range of elevations relative to area of the map. Don't know about the other maps, however.

I haven't played it long enough to notice some of the user interface issues highhlighted by some reviews (i.e. unintuitive and inconvenient ways of selecting your class and equipment).

is the sale over now?

still on sale

so i decided to pick it up since its pretty cheap...ugh, so far what a mistake...

only played 1 map so far and the graphics are not much to look at. controls are funky, kind of jerky and not smooth. can't find a server under 100 ping.

tried to play more and it would hang when trying to connect to a server. when i can get in, the controls suck - feels like i'm playing on a console with a controller. its hard to see the enemies as they blend into the scenery very well. it takes way too many shots to kill them too.

again, very few servers under 100 ping. there are 5 classes, only 4 available at start. you have to unlock the 5th. you only get a rifle and a pistol to start. no grenades, nothing extra, so players who have been playing have already unlocked stuff while you get stuck with shit.

graphics aren't anything special, probably Countrstrike level or worse.

i found a fix for the mouse issues...

go to the install folder and open breach.ini
I changed the settings to:

UseMouseFiltering=off
MouseInputScale=1.000000

And the mouse control is 100x better, so now I can actually aim properly.

Still, moving is clunky. I can barely hear my own gun shooting, never hear allies or enemies shooting, and when i use cover or use a mounted gun, i hear no firing sounds at all.

I haven't experienced either problem (sound and mouse works fine). However, I have experienced a few networking bugs. First, occasionally I will try to enter a game and get an infinite "loading" screen. The only way to get out is to end the game through Task Manager. Another problem which I've run into only a couple of times and entering a game that doesn't display any info about the players around me (i.e. are they on my effing team or not).

I like the Convoy game mode a lot. Graphics are very average. Overall, I think I like the destructible environments offered by the Bad Company series more. After playing for a few days, I'm satisfied with the purchase for $12 (but perhaps that's just because I have sometimes paid much more for games that I ended up hating).
