Ok so me and my mom just had a fight in Rio. I went to the beach and met some cute girls from londan and one guy from cananda. Its their bday and they are going out and invited me to come meet them at the hostel. My mom wont let me because its too dangerous and its not safe, and on and on. I am taking a taxi to a hostel where 5 people will go to a bar. I am 23..She wants me to go out with her and her co woker to have drinks and listen to music. Is it so unreasonable to want to spend one niht of 8 days with people my age?

LoL... I just came back from Sao Paulo, and I was told not to walk even one block with my briefcase on. Everything around has live electrical fences. For the first time in my life, I sat in a Corolla with bulletproof glass.

Mind you, I've never been to Brazil, but I've been all over Western and Eastern Europe, Madagascar, SE Asia, Ecuador, and the US, and at the age of 23 you ought to be able to make your own decisions and gauge how dangerous the situation is. If you can't, well, better get mugged now so that you learn! Don't take a whole lot of money, and just take a copy of your passport for ID, nothing else.

That said, if she paid for the ticket, you don't have much leverage.

Dude go out with the people you met on the beach. When is the next time, you'll ever have the chance to have buttsecks with a guy from Cananda.
 
Yeah I didn't end up going which i am still pissed about. I got guilt tripped into not going....and yes she is paying for it so its hard to be upset but still i thought it was unreasonable.
 
I've lived in brazil for a few years. If you can act like a local and keep your beloved patriot trap shut you won't have any problems.
 
The beach area of Rio is not dangerous, there are tourists and cops everywhere. Wander further afield however and good luck! I've seen the other side of Rio - Favellas etc, but I'm sure you wouldnt be going there.

I also walked around Sao Paolo without any issues.
