SAO PAULO – Brazil says it has recognized the state of Palestine based on borders at the time of Israel's 1967 conquest of the West Bank.

The Foreign Ministry says the recognition is in response to a request made by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas last month to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Silva sent a letter to Abbas on Dec. 1, saying Brazil recognizes Palestine and hopes that the recognition will help lead to states of Israel and Palestine "that will coexist peacefully and in security."

The foreign ministry says that the recognition is "in line with Brazil's historic willingness to contribute to peace between Israel and Palestine."

The announcement was posted Friday on the Foreign Ministry's website.
How dare those anti-semitic bastards recognize a state for those unchosen sand n words? :awe:

Hooray for Brazil! They have some smokin hot women down there.

Well, all we can say is that Brazil and their somewhat ally in Turkey are new rising powers, but by themselves not enough to declare a Palestinian State. But someone has to be the first, and see if others join their bandwagon.

Only time will tell how many other nations join in with Brazil.

i guess anything Palestinian related is a slow news day for you :hmm:

would you rather me create a new thread on the rabbi and his sons who molested his daughter and other relatives :\

Sorry it might be newsworthy if Brazil was a world power but they're not...

If you started that new thread, what would be your commentary?

Seems like it's important because Brazil is an emerging world power and future UN security council member.

I guess Brazil missed the part where the arabs living in Israel (who call themselves palestinians) voted for Hamas as their government who's goal is to destroy the state of Israel, not coexist with her.

Agricultural power, yes. I doubt they will ever be a global military power or a major player on the world stage, for that matter. They will be a non-permanent member of the security council, along with Bosnia, Nigeria, etc. this coming session.

That being said, yes Brazilian women are hot. Their women will always be a world power in beauty...

I think that they will be. However, maybe you have a different definition of major player. I think that they're more visible than some country like Spain, and will easily overtake the UK or France.

They will also have to be made a permanent UN SC member if the UN expects any meaningful existence in the future.

That hasn't happened yet. So you'll have to put your fantasies of a third world expeditionary force conquering Europe on hold.

Other than dragging down Greater Germany (also known as the European Union minus the UK), I do not think Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy or Ireland are "major players" on the world stage. I would expect Japan and Germany to become permanent members of the security council long before Brazil or even India. Although, China might veto any attempt to let Japan become a permanent member. FWIW, I support Germany and Japan becoming permanent members.

So yeh, I could see Brazil being more relevant in the future than the PIGS.

I would expect Japan and Germany to be members of the SC if the vote was held today. But it's not. However, it will obviously change in the near future. I think that the UK and France seats should be consolidated into a single seat and Germany/Japan will be left out as their future is obviously on the decline due to population demographics. There's no need to add 2 more countries that will need to be kicked out in the future.

To understand why Israel is losing ground one has to look at the current Israeli hard liner government, no where further
