I just finished watching it for the first time. Yes I know I fail for waiting 14 years to see it. I remember at the time looking at the trailers and reading a bit about the movie and wondering what the heck all the fuss was about. Now that I've seen it I can only say WHAT THE FUCK WAS ALL THE FUSS ABOUT!?!?! How the hell does a movie like that walk away with 5 Oscars!? Let alone best director and best picture? I mean it was okay in places, I suppose as a period piece it replicates the feel of the time well enough, the scenery was beautiful and you can tell a lot of $$$ went into it but that's about where my praise ends and even that's stretching things.

Edit: The main reason I dislike the film is that for such a highly rated film it just seems too over the top. It comes across more like a testosterone infused gore fest whose main goal seems to be to put Mel Gibson on some godlike pedestal. Yes yes I know I need to hand in my man card, sorry I never got one to hand in. I wouldn't be complaining if it weren't for the high praise the film received from many critics. I never got the feeling like I was watching a film about William Wallace so much as bowing down to Mel Gibson.

Blasphemy. I never want to read any opinion of yours, ever again. Hang your head in shame. Leave these forums, and never show yourself anywhere again.
