i just saw it for the 3d time, great movie. i know Rebert the Brus is real, and so is the king of england, and i beleive william wallas was real, but how m,uch of the story is true? i am very sure he did NOT have sexual relationship with that woman (princess of wales) (;))

does anyone know about the real historical facts about scoland 13th century history?

i did a report on this one in hs, and most of it is real. the tryst w/ him and the princess is not true to the best of anyone's knowledge, but all the battle's happened, he did live and he was tortured to death and his body was placed at various points around the kingdom. and yes, the king did live, robert the bruce was the first king of scotland

You know the part in the movie where Mel takes the arrow in the shoulder? Well, the real Wallace actually took it in the neck :)

I'm pretty sure I remember hearing that off of the "commentary" track on the Braveheart DVD.

I only caught a snippet of it from the recent History Channel presentation of The History of Britain, but that historian was saying that the real expert in guerrilla warfare was not Wallace, but Bruce himself. He seemed to be downplaying the importance of Wallace, and you can rest assured that the story was "Hollywoodified" to make the screenplay better.

I think they are replaying The History of Britain (I saw portions about the Norman invasion today), and I will try to watch out for the replay of that period.

Fascinating series.

From what I heard it was not particularly historically accurate - but a very good movie :)

I watches this film in my english lit class a couple months ago and the teacher passed out a printed copy of this webpage for us to read over.

I read somewhere that robin hood was based on Willam wallace. I don`t know if that is true, but if you think about it, it seems possible.

If you enjoyed the movie, I recommend finding the book somewhere.

For some odd reason it just went out of print. My teacher had a copy and let me borrow it. Great book.
