CASTLE CREEK -- A 31-year-old Whitney Point man prevented a tractor-trailer driver who was later accused of drunken driving from pulling onto Interstate 81 Wednesday morning.

Aaron A. Paulson, 43, of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, is in the Broome County Jail without bail after he hit a service station overhang and then rammed Michael Scanlon's vehicle when the Hyde Street man tried to keep him from leaving the accident scene.

"I just couldn't see letting him get on the highway. Mainly, I have four kids who all ride the bus to school," Scanlon said from home Wednesday evening. "I saw a school bus on the road, thought of the kids, and after that everything I did was instantaneous."

With the way courts are these days im sure Scanlon will get sued for "emotional damages" to the trucker. And of course hell lose too.

i'd rather be reading this story then the one about the kids that sodomized that reatrd and DOZENS of kids stood around and watched. Or the guy getting beat up in the pizza place, for that matter.

It scares me that some people would consider this a foolish act. There should have been 5 other people out there helping him.

In spite of all the GO USA HAW HAW WE'LL KICK YOUR ASS talk you hear these days, this country is mostly composed of fat cowards and sheep.

Why would that be foolish? I rather consider him heroic. I guess the only foolishness would be if he got killed. And in spite of that, he would be much more heroic to me for sacrificing his life for many others that would likely have been killed by the impact of a truck in an accident. Thumbs up to Mr. Scanlon!

Guy did the right thing. Others would have just called 911 and it might have been too late to stop any potential carnage.

if he had died... you all would be nominating him for a Darwin award.

I wouldn't have. I wish there were more people like that in the world.

I'll just say that everyone's got a big e-wang until it's THEIR ass on the line. That's when your true colors show.

Since I started the topic (to get the ATOTers opinions) I guess I'll add mine now that I have had some responses. I think Mr. Scanlon acted heroically and admirably. My wife is from Whitney Point (if you looked at my "new camper" thread - those pictures of the camper with the barn in the background are at her parent's house in Whitney Point) and she and her family know MANY people there that commute on that interstate every day. One wonders what *COULD* have happened and who might have been involved had he not taken action!

I would not be surprised of a local group here starts a fund to buy him a new vehicle (I would contribute!)

i know i would chip in.

how will his insurance handle this.....

since the damage to the car wasn't accidental..he purposely allowed his car to be damaged will they still pay up?

That guy must have Titanium balls.

i would like to think that most parents invisioning their kids in the school bus this guy was about to share the road with would have actively tried to stop him.

I hope the insurance rates won't go up after that

That'd be a hell of a thing. Insurance company increases your rates (or drops you) because you're prone to "motor-vigilianteism" or something.
