ive read both, liked 1984 more myself, but only slightly more than brave new world.

still love the 1984 ending

He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother.

BNW is a better book, but Orwell is the better writer. Your poll does not accurately reflect my opinion based on the title of this thread.

Brave New World is not only better than 1984 (which quite frankly kind of sucked) but it is one of the best novels of any genre.

imo, BNW had greater/deeper meaning and themes. i really like both though. but bnw for its literary superiority.

I've read both books and like both very much; 1984 was much more scary but BNW had a better insight into the paradox of good and evil.

Dug,

How many people here have read both of them?
That said, Brave New World was more engaging. I don't want to think about which was better at the moment, though.

Both were awesome books, but I personally liked 1984 better.

We kinda see both versions of the "future" in our society today tho huh? They both relate and it is haunting

indeed, at the very least kids who do English & English Lit get a reasonably interesting reading list ;)
