Porsche and Saab... wow, do I have to say more?

No to defend Porsche as I have worked on a lot of them in my day. But they do not produce the numbers of cars as others and as such can have swings of really good years and bad. The more you make the better your average will get. That and Porsche is a lot better then the older ones. Still not great, but not a automatic fail off the lot.

I also use to own a Saab and it falls in the standard European car mix, Great to drive but can eat you alive after the warranty runs out.

According to this I have the most reliable American car (Fusion 4cyl) and since it doesn't have a bunch of extra bits it doesn't have much to go wrong

Go me!

Its more interesting to me that the gap worst to best is a lot smaller and the problems found are minor.
Just shows everybody makes pretty good cars compared to even 10 yrs ago

Predicted reliability for Toyota is still high but we know their quality has dropped A LOT but the general public still think they're the best.

Because while the 2007 Camrys represented a huge step backwards, their other cars are doing more than fine in terms of quality. It's the new cars like the Venza that are giving them trouble but the bread and butter Corolla is more than solid.

Edit: This is also why you see Toyota's spread going down. Compare Honda and Toyota. Toyota has a tail for the reliability chart. A huge tail. This represents cars like the Venza and Camry, but it's able to keep it's other vehicles in the top. I'm surprised Scion is doing this well.

Toyota as a whole has dropped - their entire lineup has decreased in quality.

This consumer reports graph is a f'n joke. I wonder how much they were paid to put certain companies in certain places.

I'm sorry but I would consider ANY report Consumer Reports generates a bunch of trash. I used to subscribe to CR, and anything I ever bought based on their evaluation, turned out to be crap. Weather it was vacuum cleaners, washers/dryers, appliances, etc., if I bought it based on their recommendation, within a year or two the product failed and I had to either have it repaired or replaced. Leave the quality reports to the automotive experts, like Car and Driver, Motor Trend, etc.

CR's been playing fingercuffs with Honda and Toyota as long they've been around, their ratings are less than worthless.

and other reviewers that give GM/chrysler good ratings are doing the same

Gm and Chrysler don't need to be mentioned in the same sentence, it's like grouping Mitsubishi with Honda, that spectacular level of stupidity.

I don't think any Chrysler cars get widespread good ratings. OTOH, plenty of GM products do (and plenty of GM products get average/poor ratings as well).

Troll troll troll your boat all you want, but :

(1)- Things aren't that simple in the real world

and

(2)- Consumer Reports ___'PREDICTED'___ reliability ratings are about the biggest joke in the game.

LOL I love how the Americans automatically and arbitrarily dismiss anything that reveals how shit their cars are.

its a macho kinda thing, good cars = bigger penis or something or "tough guy"

Consider this your first and only warning. Criticizing the cars is OK, but when you start with the vulgar referenced to other members you're in vacation territory. Given your history, you should know that by now.

Your ignorance of American automobiles is astounding. Ford passed Toyota and Honda last quarter in both initial quality and 3 months in service.

But don't let the facts get in the way of your blind nationalism. Facts are stupid things when compared to bigotry.

I think CR might really be trying to clean up their image on this, whether it's justified or not.

My GF gets it every month, in the latest issue they downgraded the reliability on the new WRX's and now do not recommend them. That was a bit of a shocker to me.

Heh. 'The Americans'? Auto production is pretty much globalized now for the most part, many 'imports' are manufactured here, there, and everywhere, with parts similarly sourced from everywhere. There's nothing inherently superior or inferior about an entire region, you have to dig down to model by model, year by year basis to get an objective idea about the quality, value, and long-term reliability of a particular model. Other than the generally consistent garbage that Chrysler and Mitsubishi put out (with a few notable exceptions), it's blissfully ignorant for someone to try to dismiss an entire region of the planet as making 'shit' cars.

For example, if Ford instead of Honda had made the glass trannies of the early '00s, it would be an example of more 'shit' cars, right? Or if GM had made the trucks that had crappy welds instead of Toyota, that would be another example of these 'shit' cars right? I hold Honda and Toyota in very good regard overall, but it's spectacularly stupid to generalize to such an extreme degree.

If there's anything ARBITRARY, it's blanket generalizations exemplified by folks like you and LOIUSSSS, along with utterly unscientific 'predicted' reliability garbage that is the definition of the word.

Read this and figure it out for yourself :

–adjective
1. subject to individual will or judgment without restriction; contingent solely upon one's discretion: an arbitrary decision.
2. decided by a judge or arbiter rather than by a law or statute.
3. having unlimited power; uncontrolled or unrestricted by law; despotic; tyrannical: an arbitrary government.
4. capricious; unreasonable; unsupported: an arbitrary demand for payment.

We all aren't like that. Although Ford is making a bit of a comeback this year, all of the cars are I would consider buying are imports. Although that isn't quite correct since Toyotas are made in my backyard. I consdier them more "American" than some of the real American companies. A lot of "domestic" cars are made in Canada and Mexico.

You got a problem?

How is it that Buick is #19 when they have been close to if not the top of everyone else s list. Also, Mitsubishi and reliable don't belong in the same sentence.

This is true about nearly every demographic. Japanese fanboys do exactly the same thing every time a report comes out that Toyota is losing its quality edge. They tout the reason they buy a Toyota Camry is because of its reliability (I couldn't imagine another reason you would), but then dismiss the Ford Fusion because it is "American" (and thus automatically trash). Funny how that "American" car beats the Camry in every way...especially in reliability.

And those Honda transmission problems...just a fluke. Yeah...a fluke that has hit nearly every person that I know who has a Accord, TL, or Odyssey made with that transmission model.

Have you ever talked to a German? There is no way a German car could ever fail based on their opinions (despite mountains of information disagreeing with them).

The point is, every demographic will more easily dismiss information that degrades the things they like...and push the information that improves the reputation of the things they like...its human nature....so don't get all high and mighty on us.
