BRAND NEW LanParty nf4 ultraD POST issue

I had an issue with a Chaintech vnf4 Ultra and after seeing smoke come out of the PSU, I've bought a new mobo (LanParty nf4 ultra-D) and PSU (SmartPower 2.0 350W) and I'm trying to just do a basic BIOS access.

It does seem that the old PSU is fried. No action with the new mobo. I'll be RMA'ing that once I get some free time.

I also had a 6600GT, which I suspect may have issues. Replacing it with a brand new 6200LE still results in no display signal - although the monitor does "Bonk".

I had a variety of results early on, but now it seems that switching the power on in the back causes the system to boot up (not just get juice to the mobo). Keyboard blinks, fans spin, DIMM led and standby led are lit, and all four Diag LEDs are lit. But no video display. No keyboard action does anything. I have started reading on this issue in the forums. I do get a single beep - code guide please?

What is the absolute minimum I need to install to get this mobo to boot into the BIOS? Is a 450Watt PSU actually needed just to boot the mobo - thats insane. I'll go get a NeoPower HE, but man this is ridiculous power to get into the BIOS.

TIA,

Make sure all four power connectors are plugged in. These boards sometimes fail to boot with only the ATX and 4-pin ones.

@CP5670 I'm not sure I'll need the additional connectors since I'm not doing SLI, I have a GeForce 6200LE and my rig is minimal right now (CPU, memory). I'll try them tonight.

@aiya24 I'm getting a neoHE 500 tomorrow, so I hope that fixes this.

unitl then, thanks,

Regardless of SLI or not connect ever power connector up that the mobo has on it (24 pin,4 pin, floppy style power connector and the 4 pin molex). I've had all 4 connected since day one(almost 2 years ago) and haven't had a single problem. Only problem I even had out of my board is I needed to take the memory out and put back in a couple times to get it to post. The slots/board seems to be picky but I had a early release of the board. Also 350watt is to low. DFI requires at least a 450-480watt from what I heard.

i tried a NeoHE 550 on my Ultra-D, worked like a charm.

also as Sniper82 and CP5670 stated, you must have all 4 power connectors plugged in if you don't want issues.

If all four LED lights are staying on, then I believe that means it isn't finding the CPU.

350W into an Ultra-D is just, asking for trouble. That's an enthusiast/performance board, with a Dell-esque PSU.

Make sure all the connectors are in, as was said. I've set up two Ultra-Ds (mine and a friends), the power connectors aren't just for show.

For reference, LED lights mean:

4 Starting/Booting
3 Found CPU
2 Found RAM
1 Found GFX card
0 Annnd GO

Good luck. Once it's up, it's a rock.

Oh, and if you don't know already, this is your bible.

@letdown427 Thanks for the info. I tried the 350 PSU with all connectors in and no change. It now seems to simply try to POST and then die very quickly.

I just plugged in my Nf4 Ultra-D and a neoHE 500 PSU and I've got nothing to show for it.

I get a single standby LED. The memory LED lights up for a few seconds then dies. No fans spin.

ideas?

Well, before I go RMA'ing everything...can anyone give me a logical reason why a 350Watt PSU can get the POST LED's to all light up (quickly), but an approved 500watt PSU cannot?

And yes, I'm trying to rebuild this PC with as few changes as possible. The video card may be fine from my earlier testing, but I can't really test the memory or CPU.

What is the least I can plug in? Is a CPU mandatory?

Will a neoHE fan spin or make ANY noise when plugged in or turned on - because I hear and see NOTHING. I do get the mobo standby LED though.

Please help...this is now past totally crazy...I can't buy a whole 'nother PC to see if I can get this one to work.

Well, the new NeoHE 550 I got from CompUSA works fine. The other one seems DOA. But now I need to get my 939 CPU tested...The mobo powers up..all diagnostic LEDs are on, standby LED is on, memory LED is on, fans spin, but it nevers gives video display. Tried both video cards I have in both PCI-E x16 slots, no diff.

So, I bought a Abit KN8 Ultra. It booted on the FIRST try! Had to install drivers for the PATA driver, but nothing big. No issues!

Thank the maker I was finally able to get my system back up. It cost me an exorbitant amount of money to do this though. I strongly recommend that other people IMMEDIATELY verify their PSU, mobo and CPU with a friend or PC store. Once its determined exactly what the issue is, you can quickly RMA and replace everything. Still haven't heard from Chaintech on my RMA request... oh well.

Can't recommend DFI for motherboards
Can't recommend NewEgg for Computer hardware (DOA parts and prices going up)
