Brand New Jeopardy Host Canned

What's worse:

Guy gives job to himself then had to quit before starting because, SURPRISE!, he's an asshole.

-or-

Mayim Bialik was already chosen to host special tournaments. They had a dozen or more people already guest host and audition. But they can't just name any of them the new host, they have to restart the guest host program to figure the whole thing out from scratch.

I thought Blossom was the new host. Shows how well I keep up with news.
Oh, and the last time I watched that show was in 1986 when my day care lady tuned in. She never let us watch kid stuff.
BUT, she had a laid back attitude with regard to soda pop and candy. So we liked her.

Mayim was picked to be the full time host but she couldn't due to time restraints with her starring in her sitcom, Call Me Kat. Next in line in popularity was Levar Burton according to the polls followed by Ken Jennings IIRC. Ratings showed different results but Levar had to go up against the Olympics.

There was some criticism that he didn't hit it out of the park his first day. But the guy is universally popular (which seems like it would be a requirement after Trebek), and I'm sure he would settle in just fine.

Jennings would also be a good fit.

IMO, Mayim Bialik was not amongst the group of the best guest hosts, and I think her selection as the primetime host was an attempt to "balance the ticket" with Mike Richards. She's an opportunist without a backbone. She's said some very dubious things with victim blaming regarding Harvey Weinstein. Despite having a PhD in neuroscience, she's previously promoted a book that promoted misinformation regarding vaccines (Paul Offit has offered an excellent review). One would think given her scientific background, she would defer to experts in infectious diseases and vaccines, but no, she decided to create her own vaccine schedule, and only after pushback, she finally got the influenza and COVID-19 vaccines for herself and her children.

It would be one thing if she took ownership for her previous stances against vaccines, but she prefers to pretend she's always been pro-vaccine. She still says crap like this: “It’s not ‘I’m pro every single vaccine that anyone talks about all the time everywhere, every single minute,’” she caveats. “I have a lot of questions about the vaccine industry, as do a lot of people. I have a lot of questions about the profits involved."

Who was the producer that nobody knew but everyone liked? Was that Richards or was it someone else? I don't watch Jeopardy but I remember hearing everyone raving about him when he guest-hosted.

Used to watch Jeopardy religiously. Even seriously considered trying out for it, back in the late 80's. Haven't watched much since.

Sounds like Richards wasn't the best person for the job.

As for his past comments, it seems that most of these articles aren't really quoting them. One I read had him saying that one piece bathing suits on women were "frumpy" and unattractive. I sincerely hope that this and comments like these are not the main factor here.

He said some super misogynistic stuff and even some antisemitic stuff, is what I heard. Oh, and mentally disabled people too.

Chief Host Geordi La Forge, make it so.

I liked Jennings best. Thought he was a great fit for Jeopardy. Richards was ok, but some of the baggage that showed up points to him being a grade-A dbag. Mayim Bialik was ok, but I am not a fan. Some of the other guest hosts were very good, and I would be a fan of having some of them come back for guest host duties.

Burton was not great, but got better. I don't think they gave him a real chance to showcase his talents. Loved Reading Rainbow as a kid.

I don't know about Laura Coates to comment one way or another, but I read an article saying that Trebek left Jennings cuff-links and Trebek's wife left Jennings a personal note. Seems like towards the end, Trebek wanted Jennings to succeed him.

News Alert - nobody is perfect. And if you live long enough, you will say or do something that is bound to offend someone or some group of people.

So we may have to resort to robots.

I loved Trebek, but he is an example of someone not using their power to transition the show to the next phase, instead he hung on and on. His passing, and the loss of a longtime exec producer, opened the door to self-dealing twit Richards to take over the production.

Even with his speech issue, Jennings is a safe choice as he is a continuation of Trebek era. But Burton is the more interesting choice, and likely the better choice, as he brings something unique to the table. I'm relieved that Mayim Bialik is largely unavailable to host, she's a lizard, posing as a human.

Richards needs to be fired and gone, he's a complete tool.

I thought Jennings was the best of the bunch during the guest period, didn't really like that handsy producer much when he showed up--no idea who he was, why he was there, why the show was considering "random handsomeish guy without a name."

I wasn't really watching anymore by the time Jordy LaForge showed up--though he should have been on earlier. I think I only saw the first show, and thought he wasn't great, but assumed he would just get better. I think it should go to him or Jennings.

I liked one of the ladies, too. I think Katie Couric, or maybe it was someone else. What's Ann Curry up to? I think she'd be great hosting.

Could totally see that. She seems like she'd fit right in
