I'm debating making the same upgrade, from a 9700 Pro (who woulda thunk I could keep a video card for three years?). I have recently read rumors that nVidia is introducing an AGP 7800GT, and I may wait and see. I had hoped prices would go way down on the 6800GT, which hasn't really happened.

Almost did it, but being an editor, The X800 XT AIW gives me AV to DV in, so I jumped on that at Newegg for about $300. But I have to wait for the fat elf to drop by before I can play with it. ;)

Shader model 3.0 doesn't matter? then explain the performance hit in CoD2 in this benchmarking:

Why do you think SM3 is in CoD2?
actually i dont know, but how else do you explain a slower clocked card beating out a faster clocked card with both having 16 pipes? Something isn't right.

Interesting conversation especially since neither my current card or the card I am considering are even included in those benchmarks....
here's the PE version of the card you want with those eye cany's on:

An average of 29 FPS, now a 6800GT gets almost 34 FPS:

So if your going to spend $300 , wouldn't the GT be a better choice?

I thought so. Dont assume. ;) SM3 doesnt make them faster in CoD2. NV has generally been a lot faster in OpenGL. Which is what we are seeing here.

Why dont you show the other games, where the X850XT would be faster? As in, about every other game? Also, he said $250, not $300. For $250, the X850XT is a great card.

Speaking of assuming things,

"In its unrelenting quest for dominance in the overly crowded WWII shooter genre, Call of Duty 2 introduces a new graphics engine based on DirectX 9. The new engine features lighting and smoke effects that will wow you with their fantastic looks, and make you whimper at their ability to make your gaming rig feel like an antiquated pile of junk."

OP: Good card. Good Price after rebate.

Interesting to note that they used the 5.10 BETA drivers for their tests. The 5.12 official out now is quite a bit better.
