Plasma TV for $5 -- with change back?

MONROE -- Wal-Mart advertises dropping prices, but a West Monroe man took the concept to an extreme when he switched price tags on a $984 plasma television with an item priced at $4.88.

Monroe police arrested the man Tuesday evening at Wal-Mart, located at 2701 Louisville Ave.

Chandon L. Simms, 23, 109 Lenard Drive, was charged with one count of felony theft.

According to police reports, Simms carried a 42-inch Sanyo Plasma TV to a self-checkout aisle after making the tag switch.

Wal-Mart Loss Prevention officers witnessed the transaction and called police. When Simms was stopped on his way out the door, he produced a receipt for a television purchased at the West Monroe Wal-Mart.

Reports stated he was detained until Monroe police arrived.

Simms told officers he purchased a TV from the West Monroe store and planned to take that TV back and keep the one he purchased for only $4.88 from the Monroe store.

He was arrested and booked into Ouachita Correctional Center.

yeah you would be amazed how many do shit like this. the short time i worked as a cahsier was a good life lesson.didn't know so many people would try to rip off a store.

i got into the habit of looking at the price as it rang up. when somethign was wrong or had a sticker over the UPC i would just call it back.

I had something similar happen to me. A few years back I was shopping at Sears and saw a leather jacket on the clearance rack without a price tag. I asked the clerk how much it is, expecting something like $50 or $100. She looked at the DENIM jacket next to it on the rack and sells the leather one to me for $9.99!!!

To boot, there was a powerbar in the front pocket.

But this guy is an idiot to think that he could get away with something like that.

Yeah, like a week or two later. I tasted like dirt.

Doesn't Walmart make you pay for electronics in the electronics department?

Putting something as large as a 42" TV through the self-checkout would look pretty suspicious in and of itself. What a tard.

Someone learned the life lesson of not leaving their coat lying around at the department store.

Clearly no one had tampered with it.

I am almost positive that it was someone's jacket. The only thing is that when i picked it up, the imprint of the leather sensor was still there. So IF it was someone's jacket, it must have been new enough that the imprint of the sensor was still fresh.

Well, I got a receipt and saw her put the money in the register. But i did never see her again at the store. I don't think she lasted long at that job.

Of course, that's why you hear about this happening to >50% of all people who shop at Wal-mart. Roughly 120 million people each year get arrested for switching tags on Wal-mart merchandise. It's the reason why our prisons are so ever crowded.

Or perhaps one of us misunderstands the use of the word "typical."

I pulled the numbers from my ass. A *lot* of people shop at Wal-mart, at least here in the south.

And, it was meant to be absurd.

Dude, this is ATOT - I just assumed everyone has a hard-on for bashing "M$," "$ony," Wallyworld, cops, etc.

Also, I used to go to this Walmart rather often. It was in this one where I was once asked "Hey, dude - aren't you, like, the richest dude in Monroe or something?" when I was a 19yo college kid browsing electronics. That was a weird conversation.

Well, it was meant to be sarcastic. That incident doesnt reflect all walmart shoppers, however, that statement I made does reflect my feelings toward walmart and it's customers.

Hey, thanks for stereotyping me. I guess my BA, AA, CPA License and everything else means shit because I shop at Walmart?
