Back in June my girlfriend bought a new 2001 Hyundai Accent GS, 2Dr. hatchback, 5spd. A/C, AM/FM cassette, for $8300 + tax. It retailed for about $10300. We drove the Kia but didn't like the way it handled or accelerated as compared to the Hyundai. Several years ago I never would have even considered this car, but Hyundai has really turned this car around in quality and workmanship, although it still does have terrible resale value. She now has 7,500 miles on it with no problems, and it also has the 10yr, 100,000mi warranty with 5yr roadside assist. and BTW, its fun to drive.
I also should mention that to keep the warranty in place you MUST take the car in for the periodic mileage checks which total about $350 in the first year! This includes silly things like checking for loose suspension, and exhaust nuts and bolts. The big one occurs at about 60,000 miles when the timing belt requires replacement ~ $400! What's up with that? Why can't they make timing CHAINS like the one on my Toyota truck with the original one at 110,000 miles.
