what exactly do the rear drums do? and do i need them, or is the mechanic yankin my chain. My brakes arent to great right now, but i always thought the rear tires never usually need such extensive brake work, if any at all.

LOFL. It's beyond me why the damn things are cheaper. There's more metal, they're a funky shape, etc. But they are, without fail.

you can't beat disc brakes' bling factor. thus they are more expensive. drums don't really bling.
