Brake pads -- Hawk or OEM?

Hawk Performance Brake Pads - $60.59

I'm not sure how expensive OEM ones are, but I'm not going to buy the $20 variety again.

My brakes have been acting up (sometimes they're fine, other times they start shuddering badly after 10 miles), so next weekend a friend and I are going to replace rotors, pads, and flush the brake fluid..I'm getting Brembo rotors ($42/ea)..not sure on pads. I drive much harder than most people..

Or..should I just go with OEM rotors as well? They're 5 bucks more expensive, which surprised me..

Why would OEM be more expensive than Brembo? I'd like to get Powerslot slotted, just because..but I'm not about to spend $190 on a pair of rotors.

depends.. Generally import cars you should go to the dealer and shell out for pads there. Domestic, it doesn't matter as their pads are shiet anyway...

my 200sx HATES autozone/etc pads.. dealer pads last longer and work much better.

grand am, doesn't matter,

My PBR/Brembo combo has been working great for me. Don't know how much more I spent over OEM and don't care. If I had to change the pads at 70K then I know the OEM is junk. And probably could have gotten away with turning my rotors but, oh well. 😛

If I was ONLY buying the 'most 1337 shyt available', I'd be spending well over $1000 on a big brake kit. However, I'm not.

Whatever, man..

OK, I'll be serious, but you aren't going to like it. You'll have no problems with even the cheapest pads, short of brake dust on your rims, and they'll wear out quicker. The wondrous "high performance" pads will have higher heat resistance, but you could have squealing problems, and they'll wear your rotors faster. That's the trade off. Don't get sucked into the hype.

You drive a Corolla? This is for the street? Go for OEM.

Hawk pads aren't neccessary for street driving, and as with many high performance pads they dust alot faster.

I've used cheap pads alot, and they generate way too much dust..I guess I'll try Toyota OEM.

The down side is I get free s/h over $100, and ordering just rotors will be $82.. 😛

Until I get around to autoxing, yeah.

If you're worried about dust, get the EBC Green Stuff pads.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha *takes breath* hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

The reason you've had problems with the really inexpensive pads is because those are straight-up organic pads, which are crap. What you want are semi-metalic or full-metalic pads. Anything by a company like DANA, Ferodo, TRW, etc will do much better.

OEM or whatever is cheapest

Honestly, unless you're on a track, it shouldn't matter

Don't get slotted or drilled rotors, they won't last as long

Get plain simple stuff

Once you get around to autox events, wait till the stock ones just don't cut it, then buy better ones. It's getting colder now so I'm assuming you'll be autoxing in spring now, don't put money into them yet

Thanks -- the rotors I'm planning on ordering aren't slotted..they're plain Brembos. I've gone through nearly as many cheap rotors as I have oil changes..or at least it seems that way 😛

Slotted rotors are just are durable as plain rotors.
