my question is what the hell is wrong with some of those band members? why does it take 1 guy 10 minutes when other guys can do it in 1 minute? and why can't they all just go across at once?

the answer they were looking for was a question: why would you need a flashlight to cross a bridge?
What job were you being interviewed for? Dungeon master?Originally posted by: Syringer
It's really simple if you just think it out on your own without any pressure of any sort..but at the end of a long interview and your interviewer staring you down forcing you to think your thoughts aloud knowing this is a big part of it it's just a tad bit more difficult...

This mey be a repost , but here is an IQ test given to perspective applicants in Japan.
The Mother can't be alone with the sons.
The Father can't be alone with the daughters.
The prisoner can't be alone with an family mamber.
Only an adult adult (Policeman,Mother or Father) may operate the Ferry.
Only Two people can use the Ferry at one time.
Get all the people acroos the river.

I never knew jobs see how well you do in brainteasers and I think his point wasn't on how hard the brainteaser is, but why they ask silly questions at a interview.

The instructions are a lot simpler than this, but here it is in its entire form as given:
A band has a concert that starts in 17 minutes and all band members must cross a bridge to get there.
All four members begin on the same side of the bridge.
You must organize htem so that htye all cross to the other side in time.
It is night. There is one flashlight. A maximum of two people can cross at one time.
Any party who crosses, either 1 or 2 people, must have the flashlight with them.
The flashlight must be walked back and forth, it cannot be thrown, etc.
Each band member walks at a different speed. A pair must walk together at the rate of the slower man's pace.
Member 1: - takes 1 minute to cross
Member 2: - takes 2 minutes to cross
Member 3: - takes 5 minutes to cross
Member 4: - takes 10 minutes to cross
For example, if Member 1 and Member 4 walk across first, 10 minutes have elapseed when they get to the other side of the bridge.
If member 4 then returns with the flashlight, a total of 20 minutes have elapsed and you have failed this mission.
It took me about 6 minutes to read/solve this, but at the time it felt like an eternity.
