Shoot the 4th band member. Problem solved.

He's probably a fatass anyway, and he's holding up the rest of the group. You're only as strong as your weakest link, so, out ya go.

heh, took me like 15 seconds.... in an interview though it coulda taken longer.

my question is what the hell is wrong with some of those band members? why does it take 1 guy 10 minutes when other guys can do it in 1 minute? and why can't they all just go across at once?

The answer they "really" looking for is where the bottleneck in your system. Like someone already mentions, that fatass needs to go. 😀

What job were you being interviewed for? Dungeon master?

A father that can't be alone with his daughters? What kind of perverted question is that?

I never knew jobs see how well you do in brainteasers and I think his point wasn't on how hard the brainteaser is, but why they ask silly questions at a interview.

What if you have to go under the bridge but the bridge doesn't open and you can't stop the ship?!

It's a matter of timing. A modern 91,000 tonne cruise vessel with twin azipods (18 MW each) with a service speed of 26 knots (LOA = just under 1000 feet!) can stop from full speed in just TWO ship lengths!

So if they could not stop before hitting a bridge I'd say you have some serious issues with people on the (ship's) bridge! 😛

I was in a pissy mood at the moment I wrote that comment and I apologize for the personal attack.

However, that being said I do see the value in asking questions like this in an interview to see how the interviewee responds. If they get all flustered and upset or "say they weren't interested in the position anymore" then that says a lot about how the person handles stress and challenges. If they try to work it out and even if they don't get it right but at least put good effort towards it, that says good things to me about this person.

Doesn't matter what they do, they're all screwed. What they don't tell you is that the concert hall is 20 minutes away from the bridge.

The instructions are a lot simpler than this, but here it is in its entire form as given:

A band has a concert that starts in 17 minutes and all band members must cross a bridge to get there.

All four members begin on the same side of the bridge.

You must organize htem so that htye all cross to the other side in time.

It is night. There is one flashlight. A maximum of two people can cross at one time.

Any party who crosses, either 1 or 2 people, must have the flashlight with them.

The flashlight must be walked back and forth, it cannot be thrown, etc.

Each band member walks at a different speed. A pair must walk together at the rate of the slower man's pace.

Member 1: - takes 1 minute to cross
Member 2: - takes 2 minutes to cross
Member 3: - takes 5 minutes to cross
Member 4: - takes 10 minutes to cross

For example, if Member 1 and Member 4 walk across first, 10 minutes have elapseed when they get to the other side of the bridge.

If member 4 then returns with the flashlight, a total of 20 minutes have elapsed and you have failed this mission.

It took me about 6 minutes to read/solve this, but at the time it felt like an eternity.

**EDIT** I thought you asks for 20 minutes 😉

1 & 2 - 2min
1 goes back - 1min
10 & 5 - 10min
2 goes back - 2min
1 & 2 - 2min
17 min
