Since you've never played before, I suggest going to a guitar shop and noodling around on as many different guitars as you can so you can get a feel for what feels good in your hands. It's a very subjective. Some players prefer strat types, whereas some prefer singlecut les paul types or flying v's, etc.


Also, spalted maple tops are very sexy.

Designing a new electric guitar body shape is probably the hardest thing in the world these days. Many have tried and failed.

There are basically 4 designs I think. A Strat, Double Cutaway Les Paul (PRS type), Single Cutaway Les Paul and the Flying V.

I think in the heavy metal area, the most acceptable design that deviated from those 4 was the Jackson Kelly and even that wasn't too popular except for Marty Friedman fans.

Oh I forgot about the Parker Fly look but that's sort of a super strat but..forgettable lol
