vi_edit, even fluorscent lights get warm, just not hot. You would have to leave a fluorscent on for a longer period of time than an incandescent (sp?) light, but it will still get warm eventually.

If some coffee is "97 percent caffeine-free," how many cups of it
would one have to drink to get the amount of caffeine in a cup of
regular coffee?

I don't see why checking for warmth is any more "fair" than checking the wiring. Both are engineering-esque solutions.. and in this case I think you're only accepting the warmth one because it's more "clever". Stupid if you ask me :)

14 is the odd number out, but I feel compelled to point out that neither 1 nor 14 is a prime number. 14 is, however, the only even number in the list.

In other words, 14 is odd because it's not odd! :p

Let's see: 100%/3% = 33 1/3 cups.

I'll add a geometry question.. go here to see the problem and come back here to report the answer.. if you can present your method, it would be even better..

airplane cabin.

this one is mathematical...how many people need to be in a group in order for there to be a 50% chance that two people in the group share a birthday? (Kindly disregard Feb. 29 :p, and no, the answer is not 183).

Ok i got one.. it's old, but i like it.

Three men go to a motel and ask for a room. The desk clerk says they only have one room left, and he'll let them have it for $5 each. Each man pays his amount and they go to the room. A few minutes later the desk clerk decides he overcharged them for the room, takes 5 singles out of the cash register, gives it to the bellboy and tells him to give it back to the gentlemen. The bellboy decides 3 men cannot evenly split $5 so he keeps $2. He returns the 3 singles back to the men.
So now, each man paid $4 for the room. That's $12. The bellboy kept $2.... for a total of $14.. where's the missing dollar?

$15 dollars went out

The drawer has $10.
Each man has $1 (for a total of 3)
Bellboy has $2.
Total = $15

It doesn't work because you don't add the two that the bellboy takes, you subtract it. That way, the drawer would have $12, but the bellboy pocketed $2, which leaves the drawer with the $10 it should have.

edit: Tom3 the link doesn't work

Easy. The men didn't pay 4 dollars per person per room.
They paid $3.33(non terminating) per person per room.
Note: the deskkeeper returned 5 dollars, but they paid a total of FIFTEEN dollars.
That so called dollar did not exist then.

So it seems to a beercan, at least.

An average cup of coffee has 150mg of caffine.
97% caffine free coffe has 4.5 mg of caffine.
To get 150mg of caffine, one would have to consume 33.3 cups of coffee.

Hehe...
how about this?

A man decides to commit suicide and jump off a tall building. On his way down, he hears a phone ringing somewhere in the building. Immediately he regrets jumping off.
Why?
