Basically this is just me bragging. That said, I am really proud to say that http://www.travbuddy.com hit and surpassed 10,000 users this month. Right now, it is actually kind of "exploding" with nearly exponential type growth.

Unfortunately, I sold my interest in the site to it's main founder.. and let me say I didn't make a lot.

Still, I am pretty excited about where it is headed, and I think I contributed to it pretty well in its infancy.

:)

You're going to be kicking yourself in the ass when google or yahoo buys them out for a few million.

You're going to be kicking yourself so very hard.

You sold it this soon? Dumbass.

Maybe he didn't want to continue working on it...

It's a fairly complex story, but basically I started law school so that did factor into it.

Or maybe he just has no business sense whatsoever.

How many websites have you started with more than 10,000 members?

Assuming you're even telling the truth (I assume you're not or you would have named them) - did you know they would grow that large when you started them? Thousands of websites are started with good ideas and never grow that large. Give the guy a break. He obviously didn't have the time to devote to the website.

if he sold it back in the day when there were few users..you cant blame him. If he sold it when it was growing very fast then yeah..bad foresight. I honestly dont know how much a site tehat has 10000 users is worth. For instance, how much is Anandtech worth?

That's no reason to sell. That's a reason to stop contributing to site development, but not a reason to sell all interest in the site.

I agree, you shouldn't have sold your stake. That site has a potential of blowing up, as you said. If that is the case, you could have made $1,000s -- if not more.
