hehe... i guess not too many people here even know about it, but the UW recently put PHP on staff, dept and course servers :) students will be soon, but i have a staff account as well, so it's all good :) there are plans to put mysql on soon too!

so now we get 200 mb accounts with shell and ftp access, 1 gig of streaming media space, and PHP, and soon we will get mysql. C&C rules! :p

Yeah, but when the hell are they going to speed up the servers? PHP + Mysql on them right now runs like a dog (tested on both ovid and vergil).

meh probably never :p there is very little funding right now, i don't think there are any hardware upgrades in the works.

what kind of test did you run? my hello world script ran smoothly :D

something like that :p but we have a lot of them and load balancing set up. i really don't know too much about that, talk to network ops :p

Nice.

I might transfer to that school some time or go there as a visiting student. :) I noticed that we got quite a few UW students around here at ATOT. :)

Actually, my boss and I got bored one day and did some AIX exploring, and found out that one of vergil (vergil01 I believe) was a P2-266. :p

I've noticed that the speed in North Campus is nowhere near the speed of South Campus.

What do the guys have down their? a 100TX connection the the backbone or something?

yea, i wasn't kidding when i said "something like that" :) i took a tour of the 4545 (server) building once, and the vast majority of the machines are quite old. they rely on strength in numbers :p

i don't know very much about networks, much less networks here, but i'm pretty sure this has the info you are looking for.

i've never used a computer on south campus... only mary gates. weird.

Now if I only knew how to use all this cool stuff, dang-nab-it. I'm sitting pretty up here in McMahon speed wise. Oh and also, I meant to vote for the squirrel party, is that its proper name. That would be great if they get a large vote, so who ever wins knows that X% of students thought protecting the interests of squirrels was more important. :) Oh, where are the servers kept and anyway to tour them as a student?

4545 building, and nope... we had a hard enough time getting a tour and we work in the same department :p
