I just left the local BestBuy where I thought I found a 'hot deal'. They had a Philips 15" LCD marked down from $479 to $129 as an open box with damage. I asked what the damage was and the clerk asked another clerk and the other said that they could not sell the monitor because it was defective. The he claimed that it had been repaired 3 times and was going back to the manufacturer. He said that he would not sell me a defective unit. I said let's see if it is defective. So they connected it up and it worked just fine but he still would not sell it. I spoke to the sales manager and he reinforced the no sale position. They offered to sell me any other monitor for 15% off.
The 'open box tag' indicated that the unit was damaged. I had accepted that and even suggested that they mark the reciept 'no returns'. Something doesn't seem right here. The tag had the correct original price, item number, reason for mark down, etc. I guess the only recourse I have is not to buy anything at that store again.
