Just finished up a pretty good deal today... last of the rebates came.

Early January I bought a CD wallet and 50 CDs and a MS Intellimouse Optical. I pricematched to mouse to Compusa and the manager oked the deal. I took the wrong one to the cashier and she rang it up at the price that I told her. So I had both items for $40.00. I then used a $10.00 coupon to bring it to 30.00.

Now I just got a $15.00 rebate on the CD Wallet & CDs and I just got (two days ago) a $10.00 rebate on the mouse.

Not a bad deal for $5.00 plus tax. With everything about $9.00.

 
PayPal called me a few months ago and asked whether I'd be interested in investing through their IPO. I said yeah, send me more info. I went ahead and filled out the forms, figuring I could always back out in the last minute. Well, according to Jim Cramer at Realmoney.com, this could be "the hottest IPO of 2002." Here's to getting rich! 🙂
 
😀 I WON!! I just got a e-mail from XPP Central and I am a 1st prize winner of a GA7-DX motherboard and an Athlon XP processor. Retail value $350. I can't believe it...I never win anything. I entered the XPP on-line contest a month or so ago when they extended it. I found out about it here of course. I just wanted to say thanks, its a great feeling to win. Enough bragging.. Now I'm wondering which XP will it be (they don't specify). What where they giving in the earlier contests at cities? I did notice that the retail value went up from $270 to $350...could it be a XP2000+? That WOULD be sweet.

I also got the letter from AMD XPP Central. The motherboard is not the latest one out there so don't think we will get the XP 2000+. Now I need to sell my Dell 4300.
 
😎 I checked out some of the threads in "Hot Deals" about the XPP events in Orlando and other cities in early Jan. It seems that they all got XP2000 CPU's with their GA7-DX motherboards so I'm pretty sure we'll get the same. I can't wait for mine to arrive! 😀

Haven't received my stuff I bought from Brooks Brothers (?) using $25 off $25...
and it's been a few weeks already
I email them couple days ago but haven't heard from them yet...
 
well...i'm suprised. BPCLand.com was able to ship my Lite-on 24x10x40 drive the same day and i received it next day. even more suprising was that they gave me a 32x10x40. i checked the invoice and it said 32x, but had the price of the 24x. the charge hasn't shown up on my online credit card statement. either way, i'm happy. =)

I register with INGdirect and get $50 from quicken reference by depositing $1. they then sent me another check of $25 saying if i have an ING savings acount (any type) i can cash it through my savings acount.

$1 ==> $76 in two weeks. best investment i ever did.

i wish i can register again if i have a different SSN.

So I jumped on this deal at HSN.com. Down comforter and pillow set...$49.95 not bad. But the next day (2/7) I found a coupon @ another site for $15 of $20 (first time customers). So COOL...now I get the set for $35 even better. I call HSN CSR and some old lady hacking up her left lung says "Those coupons on the internet are bogus. Those are fake coupons." So I said "So you don't have ANY coupons for first time customers?" She says "<hack> <cough> No we don't have any such coupons." Anyone have any info or advice on this situation.

It was DUMB to lock the original thread. :disgust: I hate all the moaners who threaten lawsuits and start 50 new threads, but the original should have stayed. This is the first time I've really thought anandtech was WRONG. Maybe it was just a mod with nothing better to do.

I am risking perma ban here, but I am tired of the gestapo version of Anand's site now. I have been coming for years now to the hot deals, the ATOT, and general hardware advice. I love the community, but man recently it seems that the mods here are becoming more and more of PITA's. I mean I can understand that they might not like 15000 topics started on the Bestbuy gf4 topic, but to lock, delete, and pretend it never exhisted is childish. I think that even if they had just moved it over here to OT once the deal was dead it would have been better.

I know that this forum is by no means a democracy, nor do i think that people should be allowed to post whenever and wherever they want. Hell I don't even think that anyone on this site cares if they lose one reader. However, Anand, remember that all of the affluence and $$$ you get from this site is a direct result of users coming to visit, if they all leave one at a time then you are up a creek.. Seems like we could at least be treated as equals, not meaningless peons that you can ban/crush/humiliate.

Assuming this gets me booted, I bid farewell to all. Otherwise I will probably drop in a bit to lurk and steal hot deals.

Removing that thread is just an asinine thing to do. That thread has generated more interest in this forum in the last 2 days than anything I have seen in quite some time. I lurk a LOT, but I have been around a while. I RARELY post, but I feel that it has to be said, that this just sucks.

What harm was it causing? It actually promoted some good philosophical discussion for a change. Or is this place TRULY just all about getting "FREE Trojan Condoms" and "$1.00 BOTTLE OPENERS!!!" now?!?!? I like HOT DEALS as much as the next guy, and agree the forum needs to stay focused. Killing ancillary threads I'm in favor of. But killing the ORIGINAL thread before a final outcome on BB's position has been fully determined is just a slap in the face to all who come here for these deals in the first place. Why would I be motivated to post a SCORCHING HOT! deal...if it is just going to generate excessive amounts of attention, passion, discussion, and ultimately be pulled because of these very things?

dead wrong, but then again, the owners of anandtech can do what they like. I don't pay for a subscription (though I was going to very soon), so I really have no right to complain. But I do have a bad taste in my mouth over this... wonder if it has anything to with best buy advertising? 🙁
