Braces = PITA

I've had my brackets and spacers for a week now. Today I got the wire, got it tightened, and got the spacers out. The wire makes it hurt like none other!!! It feels just like how it would when I put something small inbetween my teeth and it would squeeze together the front teeth. Damn, that hurt for a few seconds, this is on for 2 years!

My gosh... I wish they would have something else from a little age to keep them in the right place like a retainer from like 10 or 11 years old so that it can fix the teeth while they aren't that bad and then you don't have to get braces...

Argh, whats the most painful point in the timeline of braces? I've heard tightening is just pain, nothing else. But will it hurt even more tomorrow? When does the pain go away? Does everyone feel like an a*s when they first get braces???

Bah!

Sheesh - wait until you're wearing rubber bands stretched all across your mouth... But, ummm... In the order you asked: (a) Every time you visit the ortho for an adjustment, (b) Yes, most likely it'll hurt more tomorrow, but then the pain will taper off over about five to six days (try some advil or motrin depending on which pain relief works better for you), (c) When they come off, (d) Yes, but you'll get used to it in about a month.

Just don't slack off brushing while you wear them, or you'll feel even more like an @ss when you have discolored STRAIGHT teeth after removal.

It isn't that bad, they'll be off before you know it. The next two years will pass whether you have braces or not. So in 2 years, do you want crooked teeth or straight teeth?

Just wait till you get double rubber bands. Oh how much fun those were.

Do that with a torque wire. That's fun...

What do you mean by torque wire? Is it something in place of a rubber band?

Hopefully I don't have to get rubber bands, they haven' t mentioned or said anything yet, probably so I feel calm, hehe.

They have stuff like no eating pizza and popcorn. Are braces that sensitive or can I be careful and eat pizza?

When I got my braces tightened it hurt at the moment they did it and for about a day afterward. It also hurt when I got what my dentist called a power wire put on. It only went across the four front teeth though. Other than that I didn't really experience any pain with mine. They just take some getting used to. 🙂

I had mine on for five years.

Lol. Actually, before I went to my (so far) 2 visits to the ortho, I eat at Taco Bell like none other because I know after seeing the ortho, I'm gonna be eating soft stuff for quite some time, hehe.

I plan on doing that before every tightening as well because I love food and can miss it if I can't have it....

You make it sound painless.... maybe its just the starting out for me. Hopefully it'll get easier and better after some time. My front 2 teeth on top and bottom hurt everytime I touch them with the wire on.

now my teeth are straight 🙂

Ortho never mentioned how long I have to have mine on. Hopefully its only 2 years... anymore than that and I'll just request him to take them off because I want them off before my senior year. Lol, I can see myself bringing yogurt to Senior Prom night to eat since I can't eat the food there. hehe 😉

I thought the worst/most painful time was when I had full braces and had to wear an external band at night. Don't know if those are still used (this was 30 years ago.) That thing was a torture device; it hooked into my two back/upper molars, and attached to an elastic band that went around my neck. Fortunately, that was only for 6 months of a total 3 years of braces. Ahhhhh, good times, good times...
