braces as an adult ?

I had braces when I was younger (I'm 24 now) and got them out around mid-highschool... I've been fine throughout college and now am about 3 years out. I think I'm going to need them again, but obviously I want to explore the clear / invisible braces route. Any experiences/opinions on this?

I just did a quick search and found Invisalign... any help/recommendations appreciated. I do have dental coverage, but I'll have to check out the details... just wondering what you thought.

My uncle had to have them a year ago...he's (I think) 38. Found out that normal braces were the only kind he could use, the invisalign would either go way too slow or wouldn't help enough.

im 20 and im considering braces... never had them when i was younger... im going to see if invisalign is an option or not though...

If your teeth are misaligned and it bothers you, get the braces. Screw anybody who thinks it looks funny or bad. They either have straight teeth or else look like Bucky Beaver and are too poor to afford braces or too stupid to care.

Braces on adults = teh yuck.

That's the whole point of getting them young. But when your teeth start to gap because you neglect them, you'd rather take care of it ASAP no matter what age... no?

just to let you know, those invisible braces are 129 bucks a month, and chances are your insurance is not going to cover it

My English teacher has braces. She's about 55...it does look awkward but I've gotten use to looking at them. It's no biggie as long as you aren't playing the dating game.

better do it now than never...i had mine from 19-22 and glad i did it b/c i have had so many compliments about my teeth from women that if i had to do it again, i would in a heartbeat!

I have them and I'm 23, couldn't afford them when i was young. My friends don't say anything about my wearing them. I have clear braces on top and metal ones on bottom. I would go the regular route, i dont know if invisalign will be effective enough.

So are you still dating her?

really?! that would be sweet!

anyways, I'm turning 19 and i think i should look into braces... my teeth aren't that crooked but they are aimed inward in my mouth. i dunno though... at this age i should be mackin it but i dunno if ill be able to do it with braces..

I did Invisalign two years ago. The total treatment time was 14 months. The total price was ~$7000(insurance covered $500), maybe it is lower now that it is more common. The behind the teeth braces were a more expensive option(~$9000) and have a greater effect on your speech(cause a lisp).

If you have any specific questions about this you can PM me.

there is no real problem with getting braces as an adult. the only down side is that most adults had braces while they were younger. many adults do get braces and retainers and stuff depending on when their wisdom teeth come out since they are the most post-adolescent cause for misalignment other than someone punching you in the jaw repeatedly. of course that's just my opinion, i cant see other ways of why your teeth woudl get misaligned other than the wisdom teeth.

dont they have the thing where it looks like a mouth peice you wear? its clear and its removable?

I'm pretty sure that's that Invisilign thing people keep mentioning. 😉

Go for it. I'm actually considering it also (after 2.5 years in middle school) and I'm 23 now. Lesson learned? Wear retariner. Remove ALL wisdom teeth. 😀
