If you, like me, find it absolutely ridiculous that a kid who grew up rich and is now filthy rich himself should be held accountable for his actions over the last 15 years, then you should make it a point to not buy this game. Lars Ulrich was "the face of the music industry" while he went after the creator of Napster, who was little more than a young kid trying to do a good thing for us all. Recently, I read that Lars stated he should get a free copy of this GH Metallica game, which I find shockingly absurd for someone who has multiple platinum records and millionS of dollars.

I urge all of you to boycott this game when it is released to send a message to Metallica and to game developers across the world. We, as a community, refuse to support the greed and cheapness of rich people like Lars Ulrich. Take a stand and keep this game off the top of the game sales charts for good. Please feel free to copy & paste this into other forums to spread the word.

Not really, I'm just tired of buying music games already. I've got Rock Band 2, I don't need anything else really.
 
I take another view. I for one think he showed some courage by coming out in favor of artists, with full knowledge that it would make him unpopular with Metallica fans. Keep in mind this is the same band that, for many years, allowed a dedicated bootlegger section at their concerts, and freely let people record and redistribute their concerts. When Lars came out against Napster, it looked as though the free exchange of digital copies of music would essentially ruin the recording industry. I don't disagree with him that Metallica has the right to be paid for their work, no matter how many millions they may already have. In any case, boycott away if it floats your boat . . .

thats just silly... he wants to get paid for his work.. i don't blame him.
to boycott the game because of him is silly. thats like saying the other musicians in metallica were at fault..
when people download metallica, its on a massive scale

the only reason to boycott it is, is because activision keeps releasing more and more GH games. as if they were this easy thing to just copy over and over again.

i know ill be getting it... so yeah fail

There's nothing wrong with getting paid for your work, but it isn't like their sales were slipping because of Napster. What they did was not keep us from stealing their music, they just made us go where they tell us to in order to get it. Long run, the simple truth is Lars has proven to be a greedy pig and if you support what he has done and said then it speaks volumes about you and I feel for your kids (now or future). Sorry to get you guys' panties in a bunch but it is what it is. I listened to Metallica, too, but at some point you have to accept that you aren't 14 anymore and find something more intelligently written, and performed, to listen to.

I'm sure these Metallica fanboys will flame me, but I haven't bought a Metallica CD since the early 90's. Most people would say that makes a lot of sense because their music went to crap after the black album. I would say it has more to do with there being a lot better bands out there. They could have picked a hundred bands with better songs to make this game, but instead they made a deal with the devil and we're force fed some more Metallica. If Metallica fell off the earth I would not be the least bit sad at this point. Sure, I loved One back in the day but, hey, I'm not 12 anymore.

FWIW, I LOVE Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and . . . And Justice For All, like Kill 'Em All, and don't care for most of the rest of their music. I really don't like any other metal music - my favorite artist is Radiohead, actually - but I don't see how you can get around the excellence of their best albums.

I was thinking about this a few days ago, lots of people hate him for doing what he did but why should they? I'd want to get paid for my work as well. He got rich because people like the music, not because huge gobs of money magically fell on him. I respect him for standing up for what is...dare I say it, moral?

I won't be buying it but I agree, this is just a silly boycott idea for people who want everything free...

Anyway, Lars went a little overboard with Napster, but his base beliefs were 100% justified. Downloading music for free is stealing (keep in mind I did it then and I do it now), and he was the most vocal about making it known that that is what was happening. Your retarded logic of "it isn't like their sales were slipping because of Napster" is fucking stupid and you're basically saying it's ok to steal up until the point the company stops making a profit. So I can steal 1 PS3 from Best Buy right? They're still making profits on overpriced Monster cables so it's ok? If I create something, I expect compensation for ever. single. copy I sell (save for marketing materials that are given away). Idiot.

Also, I'm 24, I like about 50% of Metallica's songs, and I'm not buying this game. All of your posts in this thread are utter fail.
