Boycott France? I'll pass

mugs

Lifer
OK, first of all, renaming French toast "Freedom toast" was childish. We did the same thing to the Germans in World War II, but is France really as bad as World War II Germany? I think not. Putting that aside though, why do we need to boycott France? Yes, their government did some pretty stupid things, but why do we have to try to hurt their economy? That's punishing the French people because their government did things they may or may not have agreed with. It troubles me that just because they (and many other countries) refused to go along with our wishes in the U.N., we boycott them. Bill O'Reilly seems to be leading the charge, and he's also advocating the boycott of every other country that did not support us in that war. It's a little scary to me when Bill O'Reilly is making foreign policy decisions for us. It works too, his viewers listen to every word he says without giving it a second thought. Personally, I think it's in everyone's best interest if we mend fences with France and put the past behind us.

Of all the things I worry about in my day-to-day life I must admit the behavior of France doesn't even show up on my list.

Oh poor France a democratic country listened to thier people, demoracy in action and we don't like it🙁 We much more like a country like China who kills and imprissons Tibetains, liberals, cheers after 9-11, strips our plane, and is still communist with 95% of the weatlth controlled by the astristocratic commie party members. Hey buy I hear they make lots of money for amercian corps with thier sweat shops..

Bill O'Reilly (O'Retard) is a jackass, and so is anyone that believes him. If it wasn't for the news feed and commercials on CNN I wouldn't even know he existed. There are about a dozen people on those news channels trying to become famous by blowing some cruddy piece of news, no sometimes it isn't even worth being called news, into a holy war. Boycott French products... yeah sure whatever man. People will figure this out sooner or later and all these morons and their little personal beefs and oversized egos would be off the air and handing out flyers on street corners where they belong.

the french behaved badly, going far beyond objection of policy to trying to st@b us in the back the whole time. esp considering their motives were less then pure. i won't go out of my way to buy their products. its pretty simple.

no point supporting people that basically don't like u if u can help it.

1. Wow, I'm surprised and happy that so many people agreed with me.
2. I don't go out of my way to buy products from any country... I don't base my buying decisions on what country a product comes from. I usually don't even KNOW what country a product comes from. But if I drank French wine or used whatever other products France produces, I sure as heck wouldn't stop. Some politicians in Pennsylvania even went so far as to introduce a bill that would make it illegal to sell French wine in PA. That is ridiculous.

I do take great pleasure in calling French toast by its proper name just to piss off the handful of people who bought into that Freedom toast crap.

I have never heard anyone actually say the term "freedom toast"

If people chose not to buy french products for ANY reasons who cares. Its there money... buy or not...

I will continue to buy french fries and french toast from American restaurants. I will look for alternatives when it comes to purchases where the product is made in France....ie..no more Michellins for me.

Has anyone here actually heard someone order "freedom fries" or "freedom toast" in a non-joking manner at a restaurant?

What is the purpose of a boycott against the French? To force them to become a puppet state of the U.S.? To make them blindly mirror U.S. foreign policy? The "American fries" deal is schoolboy childishness. These are strange times and I feel adrift in a sea of foolish people with foolish attitudes.

France can cram it with walnuts for all I care. On the list of things I worry/think about, France is pretty close to the bottom (between the sun exploding and "A.D.D."). And I boycott french products because they suck, not because I don't like France.

Boycotting products made by French companies will make them lose money, for sure. They will then lay off their American workers and close plants and businesses in the US, and the result will probably be at least as damaging to America as France. How many Americans work for Michellin? Putting them out of business is good how?

BTW, does the French produce anything of significant that we would buy daily? shoes, shirts, foods, computer parts? I don't buy French product not because I boycott them, but because they don't produce anything on my shopping list...

What country are you from? No person in the USA, despite their dislike for France, could specificly order "freedom fries" or "freedom toast" with a straight face. 🙂

I'd like some freedom fries with that please... :wine:

I am boycotting French wine. I have already explained my reasons in quite a few other posts. I will continue to do so until I decide that it is not having the desired effect.

What's the desired effect?

The French surrender.

I went to Popeye's Fried chicken yesterday and they had an autographed poster of Luciano Pavorotti hanging on the wall.
