this is a stupid thread.

i won't comment on the op because i haven't seen enough of his posts/threads to make a comment. however, apparently, it seems like he's renowned for being a dumbass...

ROFL... try again  Both women were of the opinion that, as citizens of a "christian nation", atheists should stfu and accept the fact that the word "God" has been stamped on and inserted into many things that it really has no business being in. I can't even begin to describe how idiotic I think the one woman was for claiming prayer should be kept in public schools...

true. my mistake. i didn't pay full attention to the show (i watched that actual segment on tv, so i didn't both watching the clip)... i was listen it to the background and caught bits and pieces as i was making posts in atot.

both women are against the atheists and stephen a. smith is for them. all that really ever stuck out as i listened was that the woman on the left was a lunatic.

by the way, we are a christian nation... a large majority of people in this country consider themselves to be christian. we weren't founded by christians, but that doesn't mean the same thing as being a christian nation.

In the first half of his life perhaps...

I guess you read a different version of history than I read.

yeah...Darwin sat on his theory for 20+ years because of the damage he feared it would do. His wife was a devout Catholic, he wanted to enter into the priesthood at an early age, his grandfather, Erasmus Darwin, was a bishop, I believe.

He did, however, quietly adopt agnosticism later in life. Either way, it's a nice example to throw in the face of the asshats who make unfounded assertions such as "religion has given us nothing of value; science gives us everything!" An extremely pious man gave us the theory of natural selection :)

We are a Christian country. Shoot! How do you like that?

Does that mean that we are a white country too? How do you like that?!

OK, to clear up some myths:

Charles Darwin was Anglican (Church of England) not Catholic. His family background is that of nonconformist and freethinkers.

His faith slowly waned through out his life from at first not doubting the "literal truth" of the bible, and finally with the death of his Daughter, Annie in 1851 he lost all faith and slipped into agnosticism. He was never an atheist in the true sense (he never denied the existence of a god).

The myth of a death bed conversion to Christianity and rejection of evolution is just that, a myth.

This nation of yours was founded on religion. Specifically, freedom of religion. Not freedom from religion. Remember, "In God We Trust".

This nation was founded on freedom of religion about as much as the civil war was about slavery.

Oh come on now, quit it with that revisionist history crap about the civil war not being about slavery.

You can't deny the tactical advantages surrounding Lincoln's decision to free slaves.

You know what the Emancipation Proclamation did? It freed slaves in Union territory. It basically didn't do anything in the Confederacy. So much for tactical advantage, eh? Stop with the Revisionist crap.

The two bitches need to be slapped around and molested. (just as a response to think the atheists should shut up).

Egg-sactly

Actually, freedom of religion means I have every right to reject any religion. Only I cannot force others to do the same nor can I force them to not express it.

Only the government must maintain complete religious neutrality. Everyone else is free believe and express it as they please.

I should have guessed PrinceofWands was about to be a prof.

He already sounds like an egotistical d1ck, spouting the "I know all!" spiel you hear from most in academia.

Yeah, it's ridiculous to actually study and learn something before formulating an opinion. Silly me, I should have chosen ignorance and egocentrism like the rest of America.

BTW, I don't know where prof came from or how it's being used, but just for clarity I'm going to teach high school, not be a college prof. At least or now.

I think it's funny that it's become popular to bash religion, but when it goes the other way people get their panties in a bunch. If you can dish it out, you better be able to take it.

Definitely. Actually, how many credits in a discipline do you need for your doctorate? Total isn't an issue since I'm working on multiple degrees, but in History alone 60 nearly tops me out for what's offered here. Then again this is only the satellite campus and I'd have to be somewhere else for a PhD.

Just looked it up...34 more in the discipline, 70something total. Jeebers that's a lot. Glad I'm not staying for that just yet.

That black lady was a b!tch. The black guy seemed reasonable.

He seemed ok, but said some bigoted things too, like this is a Christian nation, everyone I know loves god.

Well, the majority of people in this country are Christian, and our nation was founded by Christians. So we are a Christian Nation in some ways.

All religions discriminate in some form or other against other religions. Atheists are also bigoted against religious zealots.

This is my beef with organized religion. It leads people to hate each other. Maybe not in "True" Christianity or "True" Islam, but "True" religion is about as common and effective as "True" Communism.

Incorrect (the bolded part). If you read the private writings of most of the founding fathers - Adams, Jefferson, etc., you will find that they were all largely athiest. Hence the separation of church and state. If they were all maniacal Christians like we have in office today there would be no such thing.

Um, no. They were deist, not atheist. BIG difference. All had a firm god belief, but many rejected much of organized, traditional Christianity.
