luckily for the kid the dad decided to take his own life. Our legal system would probably force the kid back to living with his dad or something if he wasn't dead.

Am I the only one who finds this story a little suspicious? The way it is reported, it sounds likelier that the kid staged the whole thing (though that would be fairly elaborate criminal activity for a 9-year old).

He would only have had to wash his hands to get rid of it - those paraffin tests are not very sensitive. Hell, just riding his bike might have cleared them off. I certainly hope I am being paranoid, but this sounds really fishy to me.

And notice how they start the article with the boy "eating cookies and drinking milk" whereupon the horror ensued. This is text book sensationalism. The should have had him "writing a letter to Santa" for better effect.
