you failed miserably.

Are you kidding? The sun and the happy man show a wonderful day and also display a love for the universe and astronomy. The long hair shows the man's wisdom and age. Grey artifacting caused by Irfanview gives a more introspective view on how even the brightest and most meritorious days carry a lingering shadow. Many ages ago the wise man once stuggled with a alcoholism and even attempted suicide. All in all, the piece of art carries great moral value.

I'd think a painting worth that much would at least be behind some sort of barrier to protect it from moisture, light, air, bubble gum, etc. This should teach them a lesson

This same kid probably throws a sh1t fit if someone touches their finger to his computer moniter.

Indeed, too many children are spoiled and selfish. I'm no fan of modern art, but that kid needs to have the crap beaten out of him.

That's not modern art...

QFT. I always thought the value of artwork should be determined by how much effort and skill it took do paint it.

i agree.

i got into an arguemnt in college over this. I was takeing a class (for fun) at the local community college last year. We got on a discussion on some art they had hanging in the hallway.

most of it was crap like what the article has. i thought most of it was ugly and not art. one guy got mad at called me a bunch of names over it.

I enjoy looking at art like citrix posted. something that takes skill and effort.

I disagree. Art should be talent, not skill and effort. Anyone can take a photograph if they want an exact replica of a scene.
I personally like impressionistic paintings like monet's paintings, or piccaso's. Paintings that can convey a feeling through colors, shapes, tone, brush strokes, etc..

Kid shouldn't be sticking gum on things and should be disciplined for that..but aren't these paintings really only important and valuable to a bunch of stuffy rich people?

All kids need to have the crap beaten out of them, just for being kids. And because odds are they did something to deserve it. This one needs to be drawn & quartered

I was going to say the kid should be keel-hauled for defacing a work of art. I was thinking he defaced a Mona Lisa-type painting or something.

Then I follow the link to the actual painting. Sh!t, the kid should get a medal! My dead cat can paint better than that!

Oh man, this is just too good:

Even though we give very strict guidelines on proper behavior and we hold students to high standards, he is only 12 and I don't think he understood the ramifications of what he did before it happened, but he certainly understands the severity of it now

I bet he does understand the severity of it now, seeing as he is been publicly humiliated by having his face plastered all over the news...

And what about, "I don't think he understood the ramifications of what he did..."? Shouldn't children know not to stick gum on anything, let alone a $1.5 million POS.

FIXED
