Boy Scouts, Gays, and United Way

Our local United Way gave our local Boy Scout Association a deadline in which they were told to sign an agreement that barred then from banning gay leaders. There was an outrage in the local city. After many phone calls and emails, United Way decided to lift their demand for the counsel to sign this agreement. It is now stated that they can choose the leaders they wish (gay or not). Money cannot be withheld if a gay leader is refused. Other packs have not been so lucky. While our local Pack doesn't worry about United Way support, there are many packs out there that do need United Way support.

I do believe in equal rights of all people (gay, black, white, indian, mexican, etc), but for some reason I back the Boy Scouts and their beliefs. Maybe its because they are the root of what Americans should be like (community service, etc.). I don't know.

What I also find hard to believe is that San Francisco and other cities that are known to be "gay friendly" have seen a huge increase in Scout membership.

Just another struggle for the conservatives in America, as well as a struggle for the youth.

I am an Eagle Scout and was in the Scouts for many years. It pains me to see people punishing the children over this political nonsense. I think it's time for the Boy Scouts to grow up and change with the times. So what if a scout is gay, if he wants a part of the fun and leadership that the Boy Scouts provides, by all means let him.

I would have never had the many oportunities to do things and go places had it NOT been for the Boy Scouts, and it is not fair to leave others out because of their sexual preference:|
 
I think they are concerned with the leaders not the members or at least that is what the concern is here.

Some parents don't want their boys going off on a camping trip with a gay leader. I'm not saying I understand it, but that was the issue here.
 
Well, I remember that they wouldn't give a kid his eagle b/c he was gay. THAT PISSED ME THE F*&K OFF. He earned it, give him his &%# damn metal!! :|:|

Just b/c a leader is gay doesn't mean he's gonna &quot;feel up&quot; scouts. I think that parents need to get a grip. I believe that more male child molesters that &quot;mistreat&quot; young boys are straight than gay. I could be wrong there though.
 
It's the PC climate nowadays. It's going to be pretty tough for large corporations to donate money to the boyscouts, without offending gay employees. Freedom of affiliation is a double edged sword. Of course, the kids are the ones taking the hit for all of this.
Money talks, and my bet is that the boy-scouts will give in on this.

F_uck gays and there rights....why should they get special treatment becuase they like to take it in the ass! i'm sorry but stuff like this just puts me in a rage....whay would anybody put a homosexual in charge of childeren...would you put a porn star or hooker in charge of childern? i think not. anyone that is so obsessed with sex that they have to have a parade to tell people about it should not be anywhere near a child IMHO.

Nobody is saying give them special treatment, just regular treatment. My son is a Boy Scout, and his Troop Leader is a wonderful man. I don't know his sexual preference, and I don't care either. As long as he is good to my son, then more power to him.
 
i agree that every one deserve equal treatment but the gay and lesbian agenda has gone way past just being equal. if they wanted acceptance in society fine they have that but same sex marriges homosexual adoption cloning a child so that a gay couple might have a child these are all sick and disgusting perversions of nature and should not be tolerated.
 
The United Way can put whatever restrictions they want on how they make contributions. The boy scouts can just as easily refuse the money and the restrictions.

It has been proven time and again that most molesters of boys are STRAIGHT males, so this whole gay ban thing is just another instance of the conservatives barking up the wrong tree. But since most of the money for the BS comes from the church, what are they gonna do?
 
BigVince: None of those issues come into play in this situation though. Most adult's do not discuss their sexual lifestyles with children, no matter their sexual preference is.

The B.S.O.A. brought them on themselves, they went to court to exclude gays in thier private organization, not everyone believes that being Gay is a choice like bigvince itterated, so if corperations and other entities that fund the B.S.O.A. ask that local chapters agree to thier demands it is their perogative, if the B.S.O.A. wants the $$ then they should sign on the dotted line, or not. 🙂 This isnt about &quot;Just another struggle for the conservatives in America, as well as a struggle for the youth&quot; it's about fairness, and if the B.S.O.A. want to be exclusionary then those who fund them also have that right. The choice is up to the local chapters, if you feel that Gays have no place in the B.S.O.A. then why don't you donate to the groups that you want to support.

That has been my opinion all along GF. However, some parents don't want their children around gays. I guess its ignorance. I don't see the difference in a woman leader and a gay leader. It seems to me that the woman would be more apt to get it on with the boys when they turned 16, 17, 18 than a gay man would. Thats been my point all along. However, I do support the Boy Scouts, and their right to limit leader membership. What is a man wanted to join a all woman's bowling league? Denied, due to gender.

NFS4 - You are right the Eagle Scout deserves his badge. My fiance' in an Eagle Scout, and I know he would have been crushed if it were taken away from some ignorant reason (as would any boy).

This is not true, they went to court because a gay man was wanting to become a leader. The BSA refused, and a lawsuit was filed. The judge sided with the BSA and said they could put limits on leadership.
 
what's disturbing to you, that i don't agree with a perverse way of life? or that i speak my mind rather than swallow the PC gag like most of you do?
 
Fettsbabe: My answer was directed towards BigVince actually, sorry for not making that clear. And I know what you are saying about some parents not wanting their kids around gays. I just love when somebody is friends with a person for years, and then find out they are gay. Then their friend suddenly become a horrible person overnight? I just don't get that reasoning. It's the same ideal behind the Boy Scout Leaders, you don't know they are gay when they are working with the kids, so why would anyone care?

That is the same thing I said, because I think we all were involved in the thread that transpired after the ruling. I agreed 100% with the ruling, private org's have the right to choose whomever they like to be included. That does not mean that I support the B.S.O.A.'s position, as a matter of fact I am happy to see that contributers have taken these steps. 🙂 The B.S.O.A. got exactly what the fought for. One should be careful what you pray for...😉

i would say that gays are an &quot;high risk&quot; group. they are more prone to STD'S and other desises because of there rampant permiscuity. whats more let's say your child's teacher is a gay man, wouldn't it bother you that the same fingers that stroke your childs head to congratulate him may have been up the bunghole of antoher man only hours before?
