Seems like the father is the moron in this case. Child was in a severe accident, of course he is going to be disoriented and prone to whimsy. The father looks to have written the book and then divorced the mother. From the story, the child doesn't see a penny from the story. However, the child doesn't deserve a penny legally, he didn't write it... A mess of a family.

This is just another reason why people are turning away from organized religion in droves.
Organized religion justifies bigotry, abuse, persecution, torture, murder, and that's just the lite side of organized religion.

Jesus said simply to be Christ-like.
Christ never did nor supported any of the things people do today in the name of religion.

So maybe, well most likely, organized religion of today and of the past and those that follow such have a more fitting allegiance to a supernatural force other than that of a higher nature.
Meaning? (queue the church lady) S A T A N ;)

I wonder if God on Facebook will have a thing or two to say about this story.

I thought the Orange Catholic Bible was the compromise scripture that ended the religious wars.

<--changed below for accuracy!!

Many Atheists encourage people to read the bible since it will open their eyes because they are closet Christians!

The best difinition of a Christian is someone that has never read the Bible but knows exactly what it says. (went to church/bible class got a chapter read to them and spend the next hour being told what they know it means) a chapter either out of the OLD Testament that Jesus says he is replacing or the Prophets after Christ that tell what they think Jesus really said.

In an open letter addressed to 'Sellers, buyers and marketers' of his book, Alex wrote: 'I did not die. I did not go to heaven. I said I went to heaven because I thought it would get me attention. When I made the claims that I did, I had never read the Bible. People have profited from lies, and continue to.'

People doing evil, rotten things for money and attention. News at 11.

Sounds like the boy was an Atheist all along.....why did he have to lie? Does he realize that he has given a bad name to Atheists?

Haven't even bothered to look at the original.

Just far into the thread, I'd imagine was probably the intent to begin with.

The kid is screwed up in a major way and most likely was looking for affection and attention. He wanted to be important, not pitied. Now he's despised.

There is divorce and money involved, the crippled lad is being manipulated. This is about cash or vengeance, not God.

Now he's despised.

That's a bit harsh on a poor kid that's paralysed.

Lets face it, you'd have to be an idiot, have really bad critical thinking skills or desperately want to believe to think that his original story was literally true in the first place.

Anyone that's going to despise him needs to reevaluate their lives.

Anyone that blames a 5-6 yr old for the story need's to reevaluate their lives. odds are it was a parent encouraging the story

From some of the posts it seems that's not an inappropriate term. I'd think the same if the kid was a dyed in the wool atheist who claimed to have been visited by aliens, a scientifically possible (although unlikely) claim. Anyone who looks at this kids pic and goes off is pretty screwed up. But for the grace of God go I, so to speak.

I would say 'pity' is the word that would best describe how I feel when I read this article. I have an eight year old son, and this part really breaks my heart:

The ones making money from the book are NOT the ones staying up through the night, struggling for their breath, or were they the ones at six years old, waking up unable to move or breathe and in a strange place after last remember seeing a car coming right at the car he was riding in.

I can see why he did what he did to some degree. If anything it is the people that believed that this really happened that I think are the issue. I really have to question someone's ability to think to accept that as a true story.

Somewhat ironically, maybe one day STEM cell research and medical science might be able to do more for him and people who are in similar situations. I think we can all agree that a better outcome for severe spinal injuries than what we can provide currently would be a very welcome leap forward in medicine. That comes from science though.

Yeah as a six year old I'm sure he was making a statement on atheism and should have first considered how he was representing atheists. Instead of, you know, young children never make up stories for less manipulative reasons.

Seems like the father is the moron in this case.

A moron all the way to the bank... no one ever said the father didn't receive money.

Especially children that have gone through an horrific life changing experience.

the truth is always some third way. He means something particular by FCDBs. Those types exist. It does not make all believers frauds. If he wants to believe that it does then he is wrong, but at the same time his condemnation, which has some truth to it, does not mean he holds himself to being superior. Some religious people are frauds and pointing it out doesn't have to imply that one thinks oneself better. I don't think drawing that inference is anymore fair than saying all believers are frauds.
He obviously believes he's superior. He's a bigot and is too stupid to realize what a sorry human being he is.

Well certainly some of those churchy types were douchy frauds.

And she adds that Alex previously told a pastor that the book was made up, but was told the publication was 'blessing' people and to stay quiet.
