Boy finds gun, shoots himself in head.

Grindhouse Double Feature. Forget the name of the Zombie one...

Boy shoots himself in the head while he's waiting for his mother in the car...

...he's 12.

WTF.

I was given a rifle on my 12th birthday...and knew damn well not to point it at myself and pull the trigger. 😕

"The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence says that 34 percent of children in the United States live in homes with at least one firearm, so people have to be aware."

This frightens me.

Yeah, well, your parents probably weren't idiots.

How do you forget that you own a loaded handgun and have it somewhere in the house?

How do you accidentally shoot yourself in the head? I can't figure out how this would happen. 12 may be young, but still a 12 year old should know basic gun safety, such as treating every gun like it's loaded.

The gun should of probably been locked away, etc but that's beyond the point.

What frightens you, that 34% of children live in homes with at least one firearm?

How much do you want to bet that a higher percentage live in homes with alcohol and cars?

This frightens me.

It frightens me more that the children were not taught proper respect for the guns and how to handle them.

Don't kids know that loaded guns are bad by now?

If not they need to play more fps games.

Maybe it's playing FPS games that have young children thinking that firearms aren't "really" dangerous.

Maybe you just make foolish conclusions.

You were probably also given instruction on gun safety along with it. My guess is those parents never so much as mentioned guns to the kid. The same "head in the sand" approach some people take with sex education, then wonder why their 14 year old daughter is pregnant.

Anyway it could well have been a suicide attempt.

Either way, Darwin +1

Om nom nom, delicious thread to troll.

Damn that sucks. They really should have taken the kid shooting a few times and gotten him familiar with firearms. They could have taught him some gun safety and maybe the thing wouldn't have seemed so strange and attractive to him.

Well I don't see what the issue is....whenever I find a gun I always make sure its not loaded by pointing it at my face and pulling the trigger a few times.

How the hell do you forget about a LOADED GUN? Why the hell did they store it loaded?! I keep my primary pistol loaded next to my bed, not in a box in the closet.

"Honey, where should I put this gift from my employer? You know, the gun, that we put ammo in. Ya the one with the cute pink handle..."

"Just throw it in that box, and put it in the closet"

6 Years Later

"Hmm I'm unsupervised, and digging in my parents closet. OhHHhHh!! IT'S PINK!"

BANG - HEADSHOT

Better call the police and have them search your house, then. You can never be too safe!
