Deeko--

I'll tell you why people call them gay. "Gay" is the most insulting thing you could call a guy (I'm not saying it's right but it's a fact). Despite the fact that these boy band guys are just normal guys who have good looks and can sing, they will be labeled as gay by your average guy merely as an insult. Anyone who seriously thinks these guys are gay are deluding themselves. There's no proof of that whatsoever (not that anyone's sexual preference is our business in the first place.). Saying "they're gay because of the way they dress" or "because they dance well" would be like saying that I am black because I like fried chicken and collard greens. That's stereotyping, and despite the fact that it's totally wrong, people do it all the time.

But no, "gay" has just evolved into a standard insult that guys use to describe things that they think aren't cool. Most people who say that boy bands are gay are using the term in that sense.

EngineNr9, for one thing, I'm not gay, just thought I'd set the record straight. Another thing, you obviously have never read a single thing in any of my other long drawn out boyband battles here. My posts are always long, and with a variaty of different points. But even so, a small post that is true is better than a longer post that isn't true. Maybe you should get your facts straight.

Ooh, time to find your quote and read a reply!

<< You made a serious post, but this is OT, what the hell did you expect? >>

Serious responses? Or at least ones that were longer than one sentence and made some sense to it?

<< I do hate them for the crapass music they put out. >>

So you hate them for producing music that YOU don't like? OMG OMG you mean that people have different tastes, and when you don't like something that other people don't like, you condemn them for it? I suppose it'd be a much better world if everyone liked the same things, dressed the same way, and all talked in the same manner. Or to make it understandble, "diversity IS SUCK!"

One man's trash, is another man's treasure.

Believe it or not, some of the music you like are, OMG, hated by others too.

<< I think alot of people hate boy bands because they're making alot of money in music based solely upon their looks. >>

So it's jealousy? It's like the good looking guy in high school who gets all the girls so everyone hates him for it type of thing? I guess I can see that.

<< Ironically enough you and you boyfriend Deeko were only able to respond with short one line responses along the lines of "well if they're so bad how come so many people like them?". It would appear that's still your strongest argument. >>

Are you just DENSE and IGNORANT as to NOT read FIVE PARAGRAPHS I WROTE that stated NOTHING REGARDING THAT??

GEEZUS I can't believe someone could just be so blind and shallow as to not see it.

Next..

<< "Gay" is the most insulting thing you could call a guy (I'm not saying it's right but it's a fact). >>

No, I find a strong argument with facts is more insulting. Calling someone names is the must IMMATURE thing to do, which unsurprisingly has popped up a lot here..

Thank you and happy drive-thru.

I wasn't defending the behavior, merely offering commentary because Deeko asked. Of course calling someone names is immature, but it happens all the time and we've all been guilty of it at one time or another.

There are always going to be people who can't dislike something without putting it down. It's a sad reality, but it extends to so many more things than just boy bands.

I hate most modern pop musicians, but not just because I dislike their music. To me music must in some way have a connection with the band, the best music is written and composed entirely by the band or singer. Most modern pop bands don't even play their own instruments (not that they can't, they just don't), let alone compose music and write lyrics (again, not that I think they are incapable, they just don't). As a result of their lack of connection with their songs there always seems to be an element missing in my mind. Of course this is highly subjective, and is nothing more than my own opinion, you are free to disagree with me. I do think it will be interesting to see if there are stations that still play this music in 20 years as is currently done with Classic Rock, but that remains to be seen.

I dedicated a whole paragraph to this in my FIRST post..

Your comparison holds little value.

I don't mind boy bands, but I get tired of hearing the same old crap from everyone on the radio:

"oh baby I need you so bad"
"oh baby why did you leave me?"
"oh baby why did I leave you?"
"come back to me girl/boy"
"I wanna make sweet love to you and rub up against you"
"don't try to get near my man/woman"

etc.

I just play my own cd's or don't listen to the radio.

Perhaps I failed to articulate myself well. I did not mean to imply that because they do not write their own lyrics they are somehow "shallow". I just think that music is a highly personal medium and the best songs are those in which the performer has vested something highly personal. I generally dislike "cover" versions of songs for this very reason. I like Hendrix, but hate his version of Dylan's All Along The Watchtower. The Beach Boy's cover of California Dreamin', however is one of my favorite songs because the Beach Boys seem (to me at least) to have been able to make a connection with that song. It is just that in my own highly subjective opinion I fell that most modern pop songs have very little "soul". This is not to say that none of them do, but I don't feel the same "oneness" of musician and song in these new pop songs as I feel in most classic rock songs. Again, my opinion, no basis in anything other than personal preferance. The comparison to Actors is slightly flawed, good actors manage to "connect" with their character and essentially become the character, just as good musicians "become" the song. You don't have to write it, but you do have to have some connection with it. There is a noticibly big difference between an actor who can bear his soul on stage and an actor who simply goes through the motions, and I feel that most modern pop bands are doing the latter. Again, I never said that musicians could not connect with music that was not their own, but that this generally strengthens the connection if it is a creation of the band or singer. As for actors not writing their own scripts, that has mostly to do with tradition, plus acting is, IMHO, a less personal form of expression than music. Being tired, I shall now leave and re-acquaint myself with an old friend called sleep.
