Boy, 15, kills himself after facing being put on sex offender registry, for streaking

This kid was not streaking fully nude by the way. He was in his "tighty whities".

I think the school officials went way over board and should be held accountable for this. I do hope the family follows through with looking into getting an attorney.

Kids in NY can't play ball @ recess. Kids in Alabama can't streak across the field w/o being put on the sex offender registry.

Assholes. Kid shouldn't have killed himself though.... definitely had other issues.

It didn't sound like he had issues, he was popular and loved by many of his peers. He had a loving family. Nothing to indicate that he had "issues". But I think these school officials did a damn fine job of making him think his life was over. Who knows what that "prick" of a principle said to this kids behind closed doors.

School officials followed Alabama law. I hope the family takes a good hard look in the mirror over raising a dumbass and for not doing more to help him through it. Kid had NOT been expelled, kid had NOT been categorized as a sex offender, kid offed himself anyway. 100% of the blame lies with the kid and kids family.

This is what happens when you empower bureaucrats with ultimate authority and pay them a bunch of money.

This guy is a pathetic pile of trash and is hopefully haunted the rest of his disgusting life with the consequences of his actions.

Does seem odd that he killed himself BEFORE going to court. I'm not sure how he would ever be convicted of indecent exposure if he had his underwear on.

As far as getting expelled, what did he expect?

100% of the blame lies on the pussification of America and "Zero Tolerance" idiots who blindly follow a rulebook. The kid needed a stern talking to and some mentorship, not threatened with potential ruining of his life and future prospects.

Used to be cooler (and wiser) heads would prevail and he'd be doing some community service, not facing sex offender status and being unable to hold a job for the rest of his life.

So basically he was gonna get sent to prison for years Becoming bubbas bitch and put on the perverts list for the world to see for all eternity. Destroying any job prospects he ever had or any future of going to college or raising a family for a simple prank.

He probably figured it was going to be all over for him, and figured at the spur of the moment to hang himself and spare the agony.

Anyhow poor kid, America is doomed.

You seriously THINK that he was a "SEX OFFENDER", that the streaking was "sexually" motivated justifying to put him on a list as "sex offender", together with rapists and pedophiles?

You don't see a difference in INTENTION there, between a stupid teen streaking in his underwear at a game and, say, a rapist?

Ok....

Maybe suspended for a week or so.

As far as the rest, he suddenly falls into the category of "How do I get rid of the sex offender in my neighborhood.....permanently" and now had no college prospects, couldn't even join the military. His life was pretty much down to maybe working McDonald's, if they'd even hire him. WalMart sure wouldn't.

Blaming the school is not the issue but clearly the kid had issues if he killed himself before anything happened because of what he did but yea placing on the offenders list is going beyond the limit from what should had been at most a week expulsion.

Sounds like if the family sues anyone it needs to be over that law.

The principal was beating the war drum like a pompous little fuck. Following law? Hell, 20 years ago that would have been left alone, maybe a few days suspension, but certainly not filing criminal charges.

After columbine school bureaucrats suddenly became self-absorbed.

I somehow doubt he would have actually been put in any sex offender registry.

This one is hard to understand. I've known a lot of kids about like him, outwardly anyway. They're usually headstrong and confident, participate in lots of sports and activities, have lots of friends, etc. It wouldn't be easy to make them want to commit suicide. I wonder if what we're seeing is the whole story. Was he on any medication? Did he have any history of mental illness? It doesn't make sense for someone to have the nerve to pull a stunt like that, yet not be able to face the consequences afterward. I'm always on guard against slanted journalism in stories like this. I wonder if the school deserves the amount of blame it's going to get from people who read this article.

Still, it's very sad, and the punishment the school was trying to level on him was extreme. Too bad no one noticed his distress in time to get him help. RIP.

I feel bad for kids today.

Indeed. Its fucking weird how completely inept people get put into these positions. Its a prank you power hungry assholes. USE YOUR HEADS.

Also... family should have been more in touch with the kid.

RIP dude.....

America is fucking retarded.

IMO that would be the prime candidate for suicide, given the situation. Probably a good kid at school, popular, played sports, all of a sudden becoming a pariah with no future job or college prospects due to his new fangled sex offender status.

yeah, that'd be tough.

Bolded is the important part of this whole story that the idiot "get a lawyer" crowd is missing. Nothing had happened to the kid except threats and possibilities of future problems. The law is dumb, so what, then fight the law. Pick a lawyer and fight the charges. Take it to the national press. Dig up dirt on the principal and school board. Try to get the law overturned. There were a thousand things the kid and his family COULD have done rather than suicide. If a teenage asshole's reaction to getting into trouble is to kill himself BEFORE facing ANY consequences and to surrender not only the case, but his entire life without a fight, good riddance.

How was he even charged with anything like that? It's the same as running around in a bathing suit/speedo or short shorts, isn't it?

Your thinking as an adult and out of the situation.

Put yourself in this kids shoes. Principal probably put the scare into him. Going to court in an orange jumpsuit, get sent to prison for years while being bubbas bitch, then being branded a pervert for life, ostracized from society and having to live under a bridge pushing a shopping cart around begging for dollars. From a bright future to that.

What the principal did was uncalled for. Shit like that fucks with a kids psyche.

yeah, that'd be tough.

But he's not suddenly a pariah, at least not among people he knew. His schoolmates all apparently worshiped him for having the balls to streak across the football field. Just because the word "sex offender" was getting thrown around doesn't mean that all of the people at his school and neighborhood suddenly assumed that he was raping little girls or something. They knew what it was all about. There's no way he would have been shunned, at least not among people who knew him. Sure, being registered as a sex offender would cause problems later in life, but it hadn't even got to that point yet. No, his reaction is out of place.

I usually don't condone lawsuits...always seems like a coward's way to an unfair solution for the defendant. But man, this school, and its administration...they ought to be sued to the ground.
