The same reason why everyone deserves a second chance to correct themselves whenever they do anything wrong. Humans at any age (especially when they are young) are capable of learning and changing. It is because they could change their ways and never make the same mistake again that we choose these courses of corrective action. Besides, all humane reasoning aside, isn't trying to change someone in this manner over a few years more cost efficient than sticking them in jail for decades to life?

Lastly, he is 12 and let's face it. None of us really knew jack shit when we were 12. Some of us were just luckier than others and were raised in a good home. Those of us who did come from a good home really have no concept of what it is like to be 12 and going through a life like this kid is reported to have gone through.

It doesn't matter anyways. No can prove or disprove that this kid thinks that way. Innocent until proven guilty. He is guilty of rape and no one was able to prove that he understood the consequences of his actions in the same manner as an adult. Therefore, he got charged with this crime as a juvenile like most juveniles do. There is a very good reason why we do that in this country.

I really don't know. I don't know what his rehab plans call for. I do know that this child has never experience any love in his life, let alone unconditional love and that is what he needs most. He can be given a chance at life but the question becomes will he have that opportunity or will the bad draw of cards shit on him again?

I honestly can't say. I am not an expert in this kind of psychology or corrective treatment, but that doesn't matter. All I know is that is does happen and I feel everyone deserves a fair shot at it.

I believe that, based on this child's history and age, there is a very small chance that he can be rehabilitated. I am not happy about it and it is sad that his life is wasted at such a young age, but, at some point you have to face the facts. Do I hope that I am wrong - absolutely. Do I think I am wrong - unfortunately, no.
