I have heard about boxing day in Canada... The 26th if I am correct. But, I would like to know.... What exactly is boxing day for? Is it like honor Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield day or what?

Boxing day is just when all the stores have their clearance sales. I first realized you Americans don't have this kind of thing when I told someone that I'm going shopping on Boxing Day and I heard "On whaaat day!?"

What do they call it in the US?

There is no real name for it in the US. Just a traditionally busy day at the malls. The busiest day in the US and usually the biggest sales are the day after Thanksgiving (I imagine you know about that US holiday). Anyway if we were to call "boxing day" anything in the US, I would vote for Mallmadness or RUnuts day, lol. Thanks for the info!

Yeah, but where did they come up with "boxing" day? Is it like, "putting things into boxes?"

Or is it the customers fighting each other in stores for good deals?

Us Americans call it "December 26th" :)
Boxing day has something to do with the rich folks trading places with their servants and giving gifts...it's "aboot" nothing if you ask me ;)

What i've heard is that "Boxing Day" refers to the clearing of all the gift boxes that you get on Xmas. But it's a big tradition for shopping madness. Many people I know save their money for Boxing Day/Week for the big markdowns that happen. We get many people from metro Seattle that come up for Boxing day to Vancouver. US dollar and Canadian pricing ... whoa, some good deals there.
