Bowlers.. recommend me a new bowling ball..

It seems like I can order almost any bowling ball online for less than half of what proshops are selling them for. However, I really dunno which ball I want to be my next one.

I have my own ball - a Brunswick plastic ball - that is cracked the entire way around. It still works fine, but the covering is getting chipped and I doubt it would be approved for league play. Besides, I bought it because it was not weighted to hook and since it's plastic, it does not grip the lane at all so it forced me to learn good technique for hooking the ball hard.

Now I'm ready for a polyurethane ball that hooks on its own I believe. For a while, my average was about 185 with the plastic ball. I quit playing for a while and now my average the last few times I played is about 165.

I wanna join a league.. but I want to be familiar with my new ball before I do so.

I just finished a construction project that required the demolition of a bowling alley. When we took over the site, there were bowling balls and pins scattered all over the building. We had a blast throwing the balls at anything we thought might break. You could have had as many balls as you wanted for free, but they are all now at the bottom of a landfill.

The pro shop at my league gives a discount if you are in a league. Something like 15% off. I got my ball after I joined my league because of this.

try www.bowling.com. yeah, hard to figure out. they have pretty good prices.

theres a lot to take into consideration when considering a new ball - whether youre a cranker or a tweener, what kind of reaction youre looking for - whether you want more front end/back end, the alley conditions are you bowling in - so its not a real quick answer.

what i would do it talk to someone at the pro shop, have them watch you bowl and ask what they suggest. take that info and go online and find something in your arena. he might even have some specific models you could look at.

edit - damn, your brother is pretty good. 22 300 games? wow. i average about 215 in league and i dont even have one - or an 800 series for that matter.

just wait in the parking lot on a late friday night for one of the drunk fatties to forget he put his bag on his roof.

Free bag and ball! PROFIT!

Honestly, no one can answer this question without knowing how you bowl. There are so many factors it is insane. Keep in mind that you can get the ball cheaper online but you need to get it drilled. How it is drilled is just as important as the type ball you get.

One thing you might want to consider is that even though the prices are cheaper online, the proshops will charge you out the A$$ to drill the thing. But, if you buy at the proshop they will most likely do it for free. Scope out where you are going to get it drilled first before you buy online to see if you are actually going to save money in the end.
