I've considered getting a PBA card, I'm eligible, but I don't really want to bowl on the national tour, and the regionals, although extremely competitive, really don't pay that much money. At least not to warrant the expense of getting my PBA card, then the cost of entering the tournaments.
Can't beat the competition, though, especially since some former Microsoft dudes bought the PBA a few years ago. Now, the national tour runs from about September straight through to spring, about March or April. No more summer tour, few weeks off, fall tour, time off, winter tour, etc.
So, if the touring pros want to bowl competitively at all, they have to bowl regionals from spring to fall. So the local regionals tend to have quite a few touring pros along with the regional guys.
I live in North Carolina, which is the Southern Region for the PBA, and got to see Walter Ray Williams, Jr. right here in town last year at a regional.....watched him shoot a 222 and follow that up with a 147!!! :Q
