Bowl Teams don't play equal opponents. Look at the UGA/Va. Tech game. That's number 2 ACC vs. number 5 SEC. Lots of schools play better or worse opponents. Makes it interesting.

It's like sibling rivalry.. you always want to beat your brothers, but when your family plays the kids down the street, you're rooting for your own.

LOL! Right. The SEC is matching up in 3 of their bowl games against Big Ten teams and as of this posting has lost 2 Tenn vs Penn St, and Wisc vs Ark. That just leaves Ohio State vs Florida to prevent a Big Ten sweep of the SEC.

Yeah unrated Penn State beats #14 Tennessee
#6 Wisconsin (my team) played bad and still beat #12 Arkansas

So Big 10 vs SEC as of now is 2-0

#1 SEC West loses to #3 Big 10 (Tied with Michigan but Michigan beats us so UW is #3 in the Big 10)
#2 SEC East loses to #4 Big 10

So unless Flordia signed a pack with Satan (and even that might not be enough), OSU will round out a 3-0 Big 10 domination of the SEC. And STILL everyone will rave about the SEC.

Which is why comparing bowl conference records isn't the best way to compare teams. Every conference has a few games they are expected to win, a few they are expected to lose, and one or two tossup games. It's how those teams do compared to expectations that tell us how good conferences really are. *

If you look at how casual college football fans ** picked the games, they significantly underrated the Big 10. Despite a mediocre record of 2-3, they were only expected to go 0-4 up to now, with Wisconsin/Arkansas being a tossup. Conversely, the Big East was supposed to win all their games, so the fact that they are undefeated doesn't really mean anything. Here are the stats for the BCS conferences as of right now.

Conference....Wins.....Losses..Expected Wins....Expected Losses..Differential
Big Ten ...........2.............3...................0..........................4.................1.5
Big 12..............3.............4...................2..........................4.................0.5
SEC.................4.............3...................3..........................2.................0
Big East...........3.............0...................3..........................0..................0
ACC................4.............3...................5..........................2.................-1
Pac 10.............2.............3...................3..........................2.................-1

* The normal disclaimers apply, especially that some teams play much better after a long layoff, and others play much worse, which can adversely affect how conferences look. See Dullard's post for more reasons: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=38&threadid=1975796&enterthread=y
