Bowflex?

pontifex

Lifer
Always see the bowflex commercials on tv.
sounds nice being able to adjust for all kinds of workouts and i think its fairly decent size to store it.

your thoughts?

They are great if you are limited in space and don't have a spotter readily availble. Great for women too since they don't require heavy plates.

Just don't pay retail for them. Do like I did and pick up a used but like new (mine wasn't even out of the box) at 2nd hand sports stores or out of the newspaper for 1/2 the price of new.

I paid $900 for the $2100 "Ultimate" edition a little over a year ago. It's a great machine to get in a variety of workouts that would otherwise require a large cage setup.

I talked to someone who got pretty ripped up with bowflex.

But I would be willing to bet for the majority of people who purchase a bowflex it sits in their basement unused after 2 months. I would join a gym and see if you are still into working out after 2 months. You could also get the same results for less by purchasing a bench set and some dumbells.

Not a fan of resistance training. Free weights are a lot more effective and after you work with them you can tell.

When you look at used machines, that line tends to blur. Plus you are still stuck in the situation of not having a spotter.

Try fitting in an incline/decline/bench press, plus squat cage, plus pull down tower, plus leg curls and all the bars and weights to do it for the same space and price of a used bowflex. It adds up fast when you are buying solid equipment.

Had a friend in college do the bowflex commercials. He was in really good shape, and a rep contacted him and the gave him a free bowflex thingy to appear in teh commercials and tout their product. he did it, got some money and a bowflex system. Immediately sold the bowflex system, never used it before or after the commercial, yet he got infront of the camera and blabbed on about how good the bowflex is and how much it helped him get in and stay in shape.

do you think any of the people in these commercials actually use the product? no, they're all paid actors. the commercials with the ripped guys and women have nothing to do with wanting to buy one.

i would never join a gym. i don't like being around other people, especially in an environment like that.

Well I'm over 50 and have the body of a 30 year old. Of course I've had some plastic surgery and my boobies lifted but whose really paying attention.

I had a buddy in high school who got one of those and got in shape. He also got cocky. Bowflexs do not save you from ass kicking 😉

People are too worried about their own fat asses to notice yours. Go to the gym.

I use a bowflex and a rack of dumbells ranging from 5#-45#. The bowflex is good for your major exercises, the dumbells are good for isolation. When you combine the two you can hit every major muscle group.

For most people that are just looking to tone up and build strength, it's more than enough.

I should have brought up the stair stepper earlier......what a great invention.

Are you kidding me? He's 49 years old and he's in the best shape of his life, he lives his dream, he plays in a rock band. He's 49 years old and that is a Bowflex body. Of course you need a genuine Bowflex to get a Bowflex body. TTIW

Ah yes. The weight bench that wakes you up with a roundhouse kick to the face if you don't get your ass out of bed in the morning and work out.
