Bourne movies

1 > 3 > ? > 2

But even 2 was far better than 99% of the trash that's coming out of Hollywood these days.

I would like to see them take the franchise into the Cold War and, like James Bond, allow the character to transcend time periods. A lot of untapped potential.

How would that work?? I mean the end was 3. I think Prequels would work better.

The 4th film, The Bourne Legacy is due to come out in August. It isn't supposed to be a prequel, so I am interested to see which direction they go with it.

I thought it was supposed to be about a different person.

I think you're right, but they haven't ruled out a return by Damon.

Edit:

Info from wiki:

George Nolfi, who co-wrote the screenplay for the Bourne Ultimatum film, was to write the screenplay for a fourth film, as always tacitly related to the novels by Robert Ludlum. Matt Damon was also attached to the project from the start. Julia Stiles as well as Joan Allen were asked to join the project at this time. Then this project was abruptly cancelled. When asked whether a fourth film in the franchise would get made at all, Damon said, "We can't keep going forever... we may come back and shoot some other time." Paul Greengrass was slated to return as director; however, on November 30, 2009, he said he wasn't interested in directing, and Matt Damon has since said that he won't make the film without Greengrass.

On June 9, 2010, it was announced that Tony Gilroy would write The Bourne Legacy and it will have a 2012 release date. On October 11, 2010, it was reported Gilroy was also directing, and that Jason Bourne would not be in The Bourne Legacy. The film will not take place in a new canon; it will not be a reboot or prequel in any way, but more likely a "sidequel" or full spin-off with a new character in the mold of Bourne dealing with the ramifications of the Treadstone conspiracy. Also, Gilroy has stated that he is not ruling out a future return by Damon or Greengrass

And I also see Edward Norton is listed as a cast member. Which is awesome 😀.

The first one is good. The second one is shaky-cam/quick-cut hell, and I didn't bother with the third because I heard it was more of the same.

I've also read the books - they are good but substantially different, the movie plot diverges pretty wildly.

Great movies, they are all great, usually series go down hill but not these in the least... trust me on this you won't be disappointed

All three of them are great and very enjoyable action movies.

As always, to readers and fans of the Ludlum books, note that other than the name Jason Bourne, the title of the movies, and some names (Treadstone, locations), these movies have nothing to do with the books whatsoever.

Useless trivia: although in the books Bourne is supposedly a super spy in the cold war era, he does not speak Russian!

great movies, but as the above poster said, they are completely different from the books 😀

The first movie follows the book plotline to some extent, but Supremacy and Ultimatum really diverge from the source material.

I liked the series, though I found the second one to be somewhat tedious. I think the third film was actually my favourite, but it could just be the circumstances that I saw it in that leads me to that belief.
