Bourne Identity: quick review

Saw it last night. It was a pretty good movie overall, but the story was a bit lacking. A lot of the questions and clues that were brought up during the movie were never really answered. Felt like the story was "rushed" out the door even.

The action sequences weren't that great because all of them were fast forvarded. The car chase was pretty fun, not nearly as good as Ronin's though, contrary to what some critic said. But it was fun pretty well done - the tiny car was a nice touch and all.

The movie struggled to be realistic, and actually managed to pull it off most of the time. Government computers were actually using what looked like a modern OS, rather than an 80's Atari game. Of course, they had to completely ruin the realism towards the end, where Bourne shot a gun while flying through the air from the 10th floor. It's not often that i hear an audience laugh out loud at the movie.

But like i said, overall, the movie is worth seeing. It's not a bad movie, yet don't expect something that you'll be dying to get on DVD either. If i had to judge it, i would give it a 3/5.

I'd give it more than a 3/5. You had to keep in mind that Bourne was a "30 million dollar catastrophe." They poured money into his training. Maybe he had to be able to fall 10 stories and plug a guy in the forehead on the way down.

Besides... it was a nice touch. If you wanted a movie that was completely realistic, it would be a movie completely normal... and if I wanted that, I wouldn't go to the theater. I'd go for a boring walk in a boring neighborhood, talk to the same boring people, and go on with my normal boring life.

I thought it was a pretty good movie.... other than the morons behind me that brought their 8 year old daughter who couldn't sit still or be quite. Freakin idiots.

I thought it seemed pretty realistic... the fight scenes were a bit weird, because like you said they seemed to be sped up a bit. I'll watch it again when it comes out on DVD... this time at home, without the 8yr old behind me kicking my chair.

And in case ANYONE here has not read the books, DO IT NOW.

The Bourne Identity

The Bourne Supremacy

The Bourne Ultimatum

These are the BADDEST spy novels ever written!

Robert Ludlum is the author.

so did ya'll notice the one scene at the end where it's night when he climbs into the window yet it blatantly looks like daylight is streaming in from the window on the inside?

it also bummed me out that he kept being like "what kind of a person has guns and passports????"

it's like DUH, a trained assasin!!

i enjoyed it though..

Just saw trailer on CNN with Cruise supposedly jumping from
vehicle to vehicle sliding down the side of a building
It looked awfully lame to me

I hate unrealistic stunt sequences

I was looking forward to seeing this but if this is anything
like Mission Joke I and II....no thanks

You're confusing Borne Identity with Minority Report...very different movies. Borne Identity is an old school Euro-spy thriller.

I believe Ludlum was also one of the producers for this film, so I'd assume this was "true to the original", unlike so many other novels that end up stinking up the big screen. I'm starting the second one now.

I saw it and I thought it was pretty good. The whole romance thing didnt seem to real though, I didnt really like that part of it, but overall, it was a good movie. And it was sort of stupid when he suddenly remembered wha had happened.

I thought this movie sucked. It had its funny parts and some nice action, but the plot was just terrible. A love story in a CIA movie? PFffffttt.

The book is a good read, and better than the movie. An even better book by the same author is The Holcroft Covenant. Really a great spy novel.

Considering Robert Ludlum was one of the producers, I was surprised the movie departed from the book to the extent it did. The bad guy in the book is Carlos the Jackal, and although it has been awhile since I've read it, I could have sworn that one of the best plot twists was that at one point Bourne believed that HE HIMSELF was Carlos the Jackal (even though Carlos was his intended target when his mission failed and he wound up losing his memory).

Then again, considering he doesn't kill Carlos until the 3rd book, I kinda understood why they didn't want to stay too true to the book. I remember watching the first adaptation of the book (some made-for-TV movie in the 80s) and feeling cheated at the end when Carlos gets away.

I guess it's doubtful they'll make a sequel to BI since the ending was pretty conclusive, but it's a shame they threw away such an excellent plot. If you haven't read The Bourne Identity yet, BUY IT NOW!
