Intel Pentium 4 1.8 gHz 478 pin 400fsb CPU $269
Sony 52x CDROM $49
Microsoft Optical Mouse/Internet Keyboard $32/$24
3com 3c905B 10/100 NIC $47
Major Brand 1GB RDRAM, PC800, 512x2, $388
(2) 40GB IBM IDE 7200rpm ATA/100 2MB Cache Hard Drive $248 (Bought two for raid mirroring)
Asus V7700 Pure GeForce2 GTS 32MB DDR 4XAGP Video $137 (To be swapped out with my personal machine for a V3)
Case fan $9.00

Total with shipping $1503.

What do you guys think of this setup for an application server in a network of 20 users. Workstations are AMD 1.4, 512mb, ECS K7S5A.

Furthermore, do you think the prices are reasonable, or did I get ripped off?

Thanks for looking...

LOL maybe you should have asked before buying it. :D
Anyways, looks good... except for the disk subsystem... I prefer SCSI.
SCSI is soooo much better than IDE. I don't know how well 100Mbps
ethernet can work... would depend on load I guess.

Voodoo3 is useless as well...

the only reason i would have gone with intel would have been to get onboard raid and ethernet on a server board...
IBM is currently in a class action lawsuit over its 75gxp hard drives failing all the time... might want to watch out about that

You really want a Voodoo III in a server? Surely some bog standard 8mb card would suffice?

Hello, I've also recently put together a system on the Abit TH7-II RAID board, here's what I paid, what was retail and oem, all parts were bought from Newegg.com. If you need a lot of comp parts go Newegg, more retail with 3 year warranties for oem prices than any other Etailer.

RETAIL:

ABIT TH7-II RAID (socket 478) 184
P4 1.5 GHz 163
LITEON 16x DVD 49
GAINWARD Geforce2 Ti (TV-DVI) 139
Enermax 431W EG465P-VE 81
6 Enermax 80MM 30+CFM TR Fans 6x6

OEM:

Sound Blaster Live 5.1 32
Arctic Silver II thermal paste 6
Win2k Pro 140

TOTAL 830 plus only about $20 for S&H on 2-1 day FEDEX

I already had 512MB (2x256) NonEEC Samsung RDRAM
1x45GB (7200) IBM Deskstar
1x80GB (7200)Western Digital

If you want to include these extra parts as listed below at current prices from newegg.com they'd run you about another 450ish with shipping, so a total of about 1300 for all my stuff not including the case ($60 at colorcomputercase.com) so yeah, you could have done better, how much depends, I picked all this stuff off of one etailer instead of going to 4 to try and save money cause with shipping it was more expensive to get the "lower priced" items from the other dealers. Oh and if you have ur RAID array setup please let me know how it goes as I'm waiting for my second 80GB HDD, thanks.
