Is the graphics card upgrade WORTH $130, from the HD 7770?
Is that Mobo/Processor Combo the cheapest I can get?
IS that worth it?
Can I get a HD cheaper than $100 for 1TB (or less IDC) that isn't crap?

Yes the graphic card is worth it 7770 is not nearly as good as the 7850 in terms of raw performance, and price to performance ratio. This means the 7850 is FASTER per DOLLAR.

That Mobo/Processor combo, is not the cheapest you can get, if you live near microcenter, you can get an even better deal.

What is the model of your external hard drive that's 300 gb, is it a full size or a mini.

Okay Everyone:

How does this all look? I got it all in here for $793, including shipping.

I am worried about the bundled Processor/Mobo.. Is it worth the price? Should I use the Mobo that was linker earlier?

I REALLY appreciate all of the help and conversation you all have given me. I won't forget it.. And you guys have made it so I will be a regular here from now on. Thank you so much.

The external that I have is a full size one. It is enclosed in a big black case. I can't remember the brand off the top of my head..

There is a power supply "evaluator" web-site out there and I forgot the name of it, but some here will remember. You add up all the hardware power consumptions, pick the processor, generic-type of mobo etc, state whether or not you're overclocking the system and so on, press the button, and it will tell you how many watts of power-handling you'll need with the PSU.

520W seems adequate provided you're not going to "SLI or Crossfire." But I'm more amazed that the price markdown you got on that Seasonic, although it's a "Bronze-rated."

Others may differ, but unless things have changed, you can't go wrong with Seasonic. Wait a minute . . . Yeah! Still the 5-year-limited warranty . . . another good sign . . . Geesh! That's a darn decent price, I'd say . . . .

Also -- the drives. Everybody has preferences. But the point about size is well-taken. I'd rather have two 500GB drives than one TB drive. These days, I still prefer the Western Digital Caviar Black SATA-III's. Although there shouldn't be much difference between the actual throughput speed on SATA-III versus II. Also, you should think about getting a small SATA-III (III -- that's important) SSD like Patriot Pyro, and maybe accelerate that boot disk once you have the OS and everything else set up, trouble free, and the IRST INtel software downloaded and installed.

Well I changed the Hard Drive to the Caviar Blue WD 500GB for $74.99 (saved $25)
And I changed the Processor/Mobo to the same Processor but the Biostar Mobo - $89.99 (saved $30 there).

So now I'm sitting at $738, which I think is damn good. The last thing I am fighting in my head is whether I should spend $100 more on the HD 7850 vs the HD 7770.

Can you all please weigh in one more time! I promise I'm going to checkout after this haha!

edit: and I have $15 in Mail-In Rebates.. So it is $723 or $823 depending on the video card. Help me!

Unless, you plan to upgrade your video card in a year, I'd rather get 7850 today and, if needed, bring other components of your build to sacrifice, in order to meet your budget.

Are you buying these from Newegg, and do you pay tax there? because if you can buy some of this stuff from amazon or microcenter or other vendors tax// shipping free, then you can save quite a bit. 😉

The 7850 is worth the $100 more, they're $250 on amazon.com. It's also got a HUGE overclock head room.

DO NOT sacrifice the MOtherboard, here, you need it for overclocking.

Also, you forgot to include the Hyper 212 evo cooler . you absolutely need that,

overclocking gives you 40% more cpu speed. unlocking the CPU's true potential.

snapptastic you should post this build on the General Hardware subforum, this is waaay offtopic for a CPU discussion

I just can't afford all of that Boris. If I could, I would. I will upgrade to the 7850, it looks to be amazing. But I can't really spend the extra money on a cooler.. and motherboard. Are they absolutely necessary? I don't know anything about overclocking at ALL.

If I ABSOLUTELY had to I would buy the motherboard, but that is if it is completely unavoidable.

edit: I'm sorry about picking the wrong subforum lehtv.. It was intially a question about my processor, the AMD A10 5700 and it blossomed into this lol..

I've given "tax advice" -- I have more scruples than the average. I used to weigh price+tax+shipping between resellers, and frankly-- still do. Then this tax year, I went through my PDF receipt facsimiles to add up the out-of-state purchases (I'm in CA). Ran through the Turbo-Tax calculator -- it amounted to a $130 increase in my CA state income tax. But finally, I look closer at the Turbo worksheet documents, find out there's an alternate option based on flat percentages, unchecked the box for adding it all up manually, and TT gave me a $21 increase in state taxes.

So yeah -- Directron, AxionTech (the very same), Provantage, MicroCenter, etc. etc. Shop until you drop!

On the mobo, there are some decent mobos for that price, they just don't support the kind of over-clocking many do here. I've got two $85 mATX Gigabyte LGA-775 boards in two machines for the fam-damn-ily here -- they just take a licking and keep on ticking.

A cooler upgrade, isn't a must, unless you plan to overclock beyond, say ~4.2 Ghz. That 25-30 bucks you can save now and spend later, if needed.

2) DVD Burner can be purchased later. You can install Windows 7 from a USB stick (or borrow it for a day). Another 15-20$ saved.

3) You can buy 4 GB of RAM today and save another ~$20. You can always upgrade it with another 4 gigs. 4 gigs of RAM should be enough for most of your needs, for now.

4) You can re-use an older HDD... and save another 50-100$. That Caviar Blue drive isn't the best out there anyway. Better yet, add some more, and later buy an SSD.

5) Now, if done right, there should be funds left to purchase one 7850 😉

You can buy the cooler at a later date and then overclock, it will be a huge upgrade at stock speed anyway.

You can also save $50 buying the CPU/Mobo combo from Microcenter.

7770 vs 7850 You decide if the increase is worth it to you. Either one will work, the 7850 will just work more better.

Otherwise it looks good.

If you have OLD hdd's - id advise HEAVILY against using them - if they're that 6-7 years old.

I'm on a 5200 RPM with no cache - and trust me i can feel the bottleneck litterally when games open in my system.

It's honestly starting to piss me off that Diablo 3 lags in the opening seconds ingame, until it's loaded everything from the HDD.

It might be a small thing - but get some cheap new 320\500 HDD with some cache atleast.

Also GPU power is the most needed power - so i'll add another vote to 7850.

Secondly - it has immense overclock room.
Stock 7850 and 3570 will give you enough power - but later on when you have more cash for extra ram\more fans\new cooling case etc etc

You can OC these babies for ALOT of extra free performance 🙂
7850 is alot more futureproof than 7770

You can get a 7770 for $140. Unless the 7850 has 2x the performance (it doesn't) it's not a better value.
