I set up the old computer as host and new computer as guest but they still wont connect up. Tried through LPT1 and serial ports, no help. What am I doing wrong? Host computer says its Listening but the Guest computer says it cannot connect.

Help, or if you have a better idea of how to get all my old data into my new computer I'm open to ideas.

Thanks,

Dave

If you have network cards in each, the simplest way to transfer data would be to put both computers in the same workgroup and connect them via crossover cable and go through network neighborhood to move files.

You cant use a regular cable. Have to use a direct cable connection cable, or whats refered to as a laplink cable.

If your second IDE channel is open or you have a slave connector open you could just install the old HD in the newer computer (or let it set beside or hang for a short time...) That would be a lot less trouble to me anyhow... Or slave in a CDR/W and burn what you want and do it that way...

I suggest looking at the BIOS of each machine. Make sure that the parallel port transfer modes are identical. SPP, ECP, EPP. SPP is the slowest mode, but it will work in all situations. You can tweak with ECP, EPP, but you will need a IEEE1384 rated parallel cable to use those modes.

How much data do you need to transfer? If it is the whole hard drive, you are better off temporarily install the old hard drive to the new computer.
