Bought new car this weekend...

With the economy where it is, pushing dealers to make some downright unbelievable deals, as well as the need to get my wife's car and mine a little farther apart in age and miles - was time for a new car. Bite the bullet on Friday and picked up a new 2009 Ford Mustang Premium Coupe. 😀

Nothing over-the-top like most in here, especially being a V6, but I'm old enough to be waaay beyond that "cool car makes me feel more like a man" thing. 😉 I just wanted something fun to drive, since my last two cars were plain vanilla Chrysler Concordes. It does have the glass roof which I love with the black color. Melds right in, but gives the pseudo-feel of a convertable from inside. Shaker 500 is enough power for now to the sound system, but might upgrade that down the road a bit. Any other quick (and preferably cheep) upgrades that Mustang enthusiasts would recommend?

$20k pre-trade. Couldn't say no at that price. 🙂

 not a bad price at all! Have you done any night driving? Have you done any night driving? I'd be curious how those little headlights do, haha.

LOL - no, no night driving yet, but I've already told the wife for my birthday next month she's getting me the HID lamps for it. I've heard/read those make a major difference.

congrats but I don't understand someting, you are too old for a V8 but are still putting in an aftermarket stereo and HIDs?

Stereo - Maybe he likes music. 😛 You can put a nice system in a car without throwing two 12's in the trunk. How's the stock Mustang one sound?

HID's - They make it easier to see at night. Which...he probably needs if he's old. Haha. =]

LOL. I'm old, but not ancient - turn 37 next month. The main drawback for the V8 was price. The sixer was just too damn good of a deal to pass on. A GT would have cost me another $5k, pushing it well out of my budget.

The car shipped with the Shaker 500 in it, which is really very nice. Six CD/MP3 in-dash player with Sirius. An upgrade for that (if it happens) won't be for a while I'd imagine - just the woofers on the floor is enough to make the pants leg ruffle. If I do, an in-dash navigation unit would be nice probably...

rented one of those a while back... for 20k its a great deal

unique macho-retro styling. solidly built. good interior. hefty steering. more than decent pick-up. and it SOUNDS great

I never understood the appeal of a V6 Mustang over any common 4-door like a Camry or Accord. The V6 is weak, fuel guzzler for the power, doesn't handle that well, has poor seating, and a crappy interior.

srry
wrong on all accounts

I'm by no means a Mustang guy, but these are pretty sharp cars. As long as it's not a rice burner (not just a Civic, but actually Fast & Furious'd out), you did well in my book! I'm still young enough where I need the V8 to make me cool, though. 🙂

Welcome to the club!

If you're interested, Steeda supplies some dual exhaust kits where you can attach two exhausts to your engine and give you a 10% boost in bhp. 😀

Well, the V6 is weak and gets bad mileage...

I really love the looks of the 2010 Mustang, I just wish the V6 had more power because I wouldn't want to spend the extra $$ on the V8. I mean, the V6 in the new Camaro has almost as much power as Mustang's V8.

For all the retarded monkeys saying the V6 is weak the V-6 Mustang was NUMBER 1 in regards to speed for cars priced at under 20k MSRP.

Anyway, yes the engine is a bit "tired" now and before long we will probably see the direct injected V-6 from the put into the base mustang from the fusion platform, but they have to get rid of the "tired" 4.6L V8 first which is also lagging behind now....

Meh, in my opinion the motor is outdated for a new car, a SOHC with 12 valves on a V6 is like 1990s technology at best.....

And, I like 5 spoke wheels more than your split 5 spoke things.

Other than those, nice car! Good looks.

Congrats! Enjoy the car.

Edit-Not sure if they still have those long throw shifters in the Mustang but if so I'd recommend an aftermarket shifter. I had a Hurst in my old '94 Mustang GT and it made a world of difference.

Good to get a manual. That certainly redeems it's V-6ness.

I would get dual exhaust, it does help, and it helps produce a sleeper image.

no interest in the camaro?

One word - budget. The Camaro would have blown through my budget faster than <insert witty saying here>.
Furthermore, isn't the Camaro sold out for a few months? Congrats on new car that is not boring, and don't mind the threadcrappers.
