Do we have an arms race going on here?

All I own in an old Marlin .22 rifle (measly but fun & cheap) from when I was a kid.

Now, my GF, that's a different story: Remington 12-gauge pump, Glock .40 target model (compensated barrel), Taurus Titanium 7-shot revolver .357 Magnum.

I've read quite a bit of survivalist material and they all say all you need is a 22 rifle in a SHTF scenario. Bricks of ammo is 5-10% cost of other rifles and gun costs less and it does the job even better because game like geese, rabbits, etc will stick around as you pluck them off due to quietness of round means more food. The reduced cost is good because you can accumulate other assets or pay off debts instead. I suggest to my noob freinds thinking of getting a gun a ruger/marlin 10/22 and 4 bricks of ammo total cost is $175-$250.

Course I did'nt take this to heart... just recently bought a real M16A2 and a sig collectors 556/226 setup... Have a few more guns than you GF....

Here's hoping you've got a gun lock and/or gun safe. Remember, if someone actually DOES invade your home while you're present (unlikely), there's 50/50 odds that they'll get to your gun before you do - and while most crackhead thieves are pretty frail, they do have a strong rep for itchy trigger fingers.

Does your ass hurt after pulling that whopper out of it?

That would depend on your location wouldn't it?

To get to my firearms you need to break into my house, walk across a ceramic floor, dodge the cats that howl at anyone they don't know, Walk up my squeaky stairs, walk down my squeaky hall, open my bedroom door, walk directly past me, open my closet door, walk into my 8x11 closet, find not just my guns, but also find the correct ammo in the dark, realize that is not where I keep my loaded self defense pistol, sneak around the bed to my side of the bed, open the drawer next to me and finally acquire my pistol.

More likely is this, you break into my house, the alarm and the cats tell me you are there, you get shot. Or you break into my house, I am not home, the safe in my closet is locked up with all my guns, and the gun that would be in my desk is strapped to my waist.
